Help, Help! I've been held captive by The Stig!

And he is not Michael Schumacker. He is a Mexican named Juan!

Some of you who read the Futura Forum know that I was down in Mexico working in a gold mine for the last two weeks. I flew into Chihuahua and was driven about 250 km on RT 16 almost to the Chihuahua/Sonora border, stopping about 425 km short of Hermosillo. Sunday I was driven back from the mine to Chihuahua so I could fly home Monday. I was one of 3 passengers, plus The Mexican Stig in a compact Toyora pickup truck. The first 100 km were very twisty mountain roads with a posted limit od 35km/hr. I would have been terrified to take my Futura above 25km/hr given the condition of these roads. The Mexican Stig made the entire trip in 3 hours. One of the other passengers who made the trip with him before, said that heavy traffic held us up today, he usually makes the trip in 2 1/2 hours.

We spent more time on the wrong side of the road than the proper side. There were convoys of 4-5 semis that he would pass in a stretch all in no-passing zones, around blind corners and over hill crests. I think I bent the Jesus bar out of shape! At some point I stopped fearing for my life, and became in terror for it.

I will give the driver credit, he was GOOD. STUPID, but GOOD! He was either on the brakes or the gas the entire trip, He makes the round trip every day and has the road memorized. He had that overloaded pickup flying and drifting around turns.

I will never, never, ever make a comment about my wife's driving again!

A good friend of mine hopped on the back of an Italian's couriers bike while visiting Rome, Italy. Personal matter required him to get through the city as quickly as possible. He's not an easy person to rattle and has spent years splitting traffic in SoCal traffic but I can tell you he was forever changed by the experience. He too talked about that at one point he no longer feared for his own life but feared that he would actually live through it...

Not as bad as that but the traffic and standard of driving in Shanghai was a a whole new level of terror
You really only need three things for bike maintenance
If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape
If it doesn't move and it should - WD40
...and if it falls off and you want to reattach it - Cable ties.

When my wife and I went to Rome, my wife's cousin (who lives there) had her friend pick us up in his taxi van. I really couldn't believe how long he would wait to slow down when approaching traffic or just how close cars got to each other without actually hitting. Definitely a different mentality. And I live in New Jersey.

I feel your pain. I travel to Mexico for bussiness on a regular basis and some of my trips are to Baja. Now the guys that drive me around also do chase truck duties for their boss during the Baja 1000...
Talk about hauling @ss on an F350. Add to that the military check points and you have a great base for a real life video game.
Still Baja is one my favorites places on earth.
