I can deal with the different sides not being symmetrical, cause you dont see them at the same time... But the front of the bike/headlights being asymmetrical is the killer for me!! Sitting on it is extremely comfortable & the supposed power is enticing, but the front is a deal breaker for me
Guess ill just have to give in for a poor lil RSV4R, in white of course!

Great read and comments on both the Rsv4r and the beemer: here's my two cents(euro): Just got back from Germany and picked up the latest MO Motorrad magazine, sorry German only. Here is this years(2009) bike, voted by 11(eleven) international bike mags, of the Year.... APRILIA RSV4R FACTORY. Now as far as I can tell the beemer was not tested/compared not even mentioned, I don't know, important are the following facts: Aprilia scored two victories last year over BMW, spanked them in SBK and just got bike of the year any more questions? Oh and MAd MAx also had something to do with their victory...

As far as the BMW electronics package ............... well .... pride is a funny thing, it's not always good

This is obviously highly debatable, and yet to be seen, Hell I've got a mechanic that'll tell you his 883 harley is the poo But I agree the emotional part is huge for most people, including myself, as of right now I feel the styling would keep me from it. But who knows, once I see it in the flesh, I may just hump the tail pipe

Why would it not be fair, are they not, competing against each other for sales and race victories??

it be some time before we know if they raised anything and there's only 2 ways to take it to the japs .............. 1 sales, 2 beat them on the track, both yet to happen by BMW and Ducati seems to be the only one who can get 1 of the 2

this is a step up the game bike for most. we are going to see more innovation in bikes from the Japanese because of this bike. its already stir things up here, and in other forums not bmw. the simple fact that so many are just talking/arguing/debating over the what if's of this bike is an accomplishment for bmw.

all i know is what i read (i know, dont believe everything you read), but there is no other source than what bmw and troy corser says about the bike for now. they have a strong package, they just havent made all of it work right in WSBK yet.

ducati has CC advantage over the other bikes, even though they run restrictions on the airbox, you have to remember, their is no replacement for displacement!!! they have probably the best and most organized team in WSBK. it is why they are so successful. aprilia has been racing at the highest level for many years. maybe their data doesnt translate to the v4 but it sure does not hurt. aprilia also changed their chassis at the beg of wsbk last year. suzuki complained about that. so they settled on the chassis we have now, but it was not the best choice, it was one made on cost.

both the bmw and the ape are competing, but they appeal to 2 different demographics. very little cross between the guy that likes the ape and the guy that likes the bmw. just like the guy that likes and inline to the guy that likes a twin. yes they compete but the same guy that buys the twin, usually does not buy the inline. i say usually because their is some overlap though not often. a friend Steve Nunez will be getting both bikes - maybe we can have him chime in on what he thinks, he has had a 1098 and 1198. he is also a rider of over 20 years.

AFIK, there's been one real head to head shootout between the Aprilia and the S1000RR. Bike doesn't count as they're still using that same pre-production BMW and they didn't bother with the track. This comes from the same publishing house that waffled on their Honda VFR reviews under pressure from Honda and called the 675 the best sport bike last year because it took well to bags. Right.

The only other head to head, this time with track testing, was an Italian magazine (grain of salt right there) and the BMW, despite the superior horsepower and electronics package, was slower round a race course than the Aprilia.

The BMW will always be just a bike. Really it's just an uglier, (if that's possile), more expensive GSXR laden with really good electronics. How long will it take the Japanese to catch up with the exact same cookie cutter formula of 190rwhp and electronics to slow it down? Not long, unless of course Toyota's producing the electronics Point being, the bike itself, the Aprilia, IS a better bike. Faster round a race course in stock AND WSBK form, better looking, more desirable IMO, makes much better noises and isn't painful to look at.

Now the rather good BMW dealership is five minutes up the road and the Aprilia is two hours on a good day with zero traffic in a car not towing a motorcycle and trailer. That's a big difference and despite all the "IMO" shortcomings of the BMW, it may end up in my garage instead. Are you listening Aprilia?

I had a German PS Motorrad feb issue for travel reading a while ago, they had a test of RSV4R, S1000RR + Jap 1000´s done, I think, in Albacete. With some other magazines also there.
The BMW was only slightly faster on track than the base RSV4R, test placing BMW 1st, RSV4R 3rd with RC8R in between. March issue will have a road test of these bikes.
By the way, they had some not so nice words about Ducati not giving a 1198 to the test while other factories had 1-2 bikes + mechanics or technicians on site.
As to electronics, I heard from our local importer that abs+traction control will be available as accessory for the RSV4 next summer.

HP is not everything, but if you advertise it, then you supply it. Af1 dynos show that the bike "may not be 180 at the crank".

That was my bad, I thought when I said "GSXR" that it would throw a red flag.

The best bike is the one you buy, ride and enjoy- everything else is just "ok."

Either one of these bikes are gonna make anyone on these forums very happy- beit the slightly more track oriented Aprilia or HP king BMW- what can we say- these bikes have it all!
    Pick one and go ride~~~~~~~~~~~~

+1. Amen brother. Both are great bikes. Buy and ride the one that makes you happy...or just buy both.
