    Newbie w/intro

I've been lurking on this forum for a couple of months, after buying a 2000 model Pegaso Cube 650. I'm a senior citizen (maybe as old as bikeral) and look forward to learning more about my Peg. I live in North Carolina in the USA.

When I bought the Peg (at a reduced price due to carb problems) it had been sitting for awhile and wouldn't idle without the choke full on.

Pulled the carbs, cleaned thoroughly, re-installed, put in fresh gas and when I hit the starter button, blew the 15 amp fuse. Replaced the fuse to see exactly when it was happening and this time it blew the fuse soon as I turned on the switch. I've read Dakar's post on buring up the wiring and am in the process of tracking down the short. (been too cold to fool with it recently and I have other bikes I can ride).

Look forward to reading more posts from forum members.

    Welcome to the forum
i beleave the 15 amp fuse is for the light, horn and dash board .. i would check if it burns the fuse when all are swiched off...
try to start the bike without the 15amp fuse if does start so far so good then u have solved you carb prob.
then connect the fuse and see if blows when bike running without switching any lights on
i m not expart in wireing but been takled simmilar problem which led to starter relay replacement
please keep us informed how u r getting on

btw nice clean bike u have..what tyres u have on?

Nobody's as old as me and still riding a Peg surely. I'm going for the oldest Pegger in the U.K before I peg it. Welcome aboard. Are you anywhere near Bedford N.Y.

Thanks for the welcome guys...........Koho, the tires are streeters installed by the PO.
Michelin Macadam 50's. I'm mostly a pavement rider but look forward to some fire trails, dirt and gravel roads on the Peg.

And Bikeral, I've not had the pleasure of riding the bike as yet. Been to cold to work on tracing the short. And according to my map program, Bedford, NY is 668 miles north of here.

Here's a couple of pics. AFAIK, they are stock (for U.S. market anyway)

Thanks for the pics…not much of use for this layout for me cos its easyer to brake them while dropping the bike (and this happens to me often )
but looks good for road use..very clean bike ..how much did u pay for the peg?

Koho, the market here seems to be about $3000 for a 2000 model with luggage. I paid $2000 due to carb issue, bike has 8700 miles on it with nearly new tires and a tank bag thrown in for good measure.

Now, it it will just warm up a bit so I can trace that short...................

not bad price at all for over there i guess...u still have the RT? What made u go for ROTAX single, dont get me wrong but they are completely different machines.. u planning to trail with it?
To me having an RT and a Peg is the perfect combination if u can afford it touring and adventure games…

I was interested in a smaller, lighter weight bike, like the BMW F650. When I learned the Pegaso had a similar if not quite identical Rotax engine and realized the Peg was a good bit less expensive (and IMHO much more attractive) I decided on the Peg. What I don't understand is why some F650's get 55 to 65 mpg (U.S. gallons) while the Peg (from what I've read) can't come close to that.

The RT is my long distance bike, for trips of 1,000 to 8,000 miles and the Guzzi if for up to 1,000 miles trips. I generally tent camp on these trips.

The Peg will be for some short trips up to the mountains and riding some fire trails up there.

    My old BMW

I sold this Bmw R1100RS because it was too heavy for me to handle, and as I don't do much long distance riding, wasn't getting used enough. I bought a Peg instead, now I get more road miles in than ever before.

I totally agree Al. I've been a fan of BMWs (air- and oil-head) for many years, but the weight has really started to put me off.

This is what led me to the idea of a 650cc dual-sport bike. Can't stand sports bikes, and everything else is way over the 250 KG mark now. My old R100RT airhead was 240KG, and after moving it around on a rally field I can't imagine ever wanting anything heavier.

I've barely touched my other bikes since I got the Peg - it's too much fun. Just wish it did the 55+ MPG that my 22 year old K75 does though.

Well u can push it up to 50mg but any better would be quite impossible.. its all in timing and ignition system ..BM spends lots of money on they research and improvements while Aprilia didn’t care

Glad that you will use it for trails get crash bars stick TK80's on it and go go..
Good engine is Rotax never lets u down even if u r in wrong gear.....

Regarding the bm..i never had the chance to be on RT/RS ..but as far as I know suppose to be one of the best touring bike and the weight distribution should be quite low so easier to handle …

But I said I never had one so wouldn’t argue about it

Nice bike! I've got the same one, same year, same model,ha ha.
I wonder how is the tankbag attached to the bike. I have a tankbag meant for metallic tanks(magnets) and I'm struggling to attach it as secure and as "clean" as possible but I can't see how.
Would you mind posting some pics, please?
    Thanks
