    2003 RS50 no spark

I recently bought a 2003 RS50 with roughly 7,000 miles on it and it was working fine until out of nowhere BAM engine cut out while I was riding. So it turns out that there is no spark, I thought it was the plug so I tested the ignition system by putting a screw where the plug goes and held it close to the cylinder head and still no spark. So... I am not exactly sure how I can go about testing which part is the cause of my problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A screw? First off try a different plug, preferably new, then work your way up the bike; cap, ht lead, coil/connections, then if your really unlucky stator

    update

So I got brand new spark plug, spark plug cap and spark plug wire and still no spark. Does anyone know how I can test the CDI and the stator? I also removed the battery and tried to bump start the bike to see if the lights would come on to check the stator, the lights turned on. So I am assuming the stator is working, however I know that some bikes have separate stator circuits for the ignition and the lights? Does anyone know if this is the case with the rs50?

So, I checked the kill switch and it seems to be functioning properly.

I managed to get the Aprilia RS50 workshop manual where it says how to test the stator. There are three checks that it lists the pick-up (125Ω ± 15Ω), the Loading Coil (730Ω ± 35 Ω), and the Generating coil (0 Ω). I got out my multimeter and all the values were correct except the pick up... which I got a value of 0 for. So I am assuming that the stator is bad, since primary current is turned on and off by the action of the armature as it revolves past the pickup coil or sensor. As each tooth of the armature nears the pickup coil, it creates a voltage that signals the electronic module to turn off the coil primary current. Correct me if I am wrong but I think my stator is out, but the manual also doesn't say how to check the CDI... = /

You can't really 'check' if it's the CDI, if everything else is working fine, then you replace the CDI (or borrow one to test it) You got any friends with the model RS?
