2010 RSV4 Problems

But I love Aprilias. I have a 2000.5 Mille R owned from new; wonderful bike only spoilt by Aprilia USA's cavalier attitude to their customers.

That's very good to know. The Rotax mill has built a solid reputation for reliability, and Aprilia has built itself a reputation for solid chassis engineering.

But this is a totally new engine, built in-house without any help from Rotax. Only time will tell if Aprilia got this one right. In the meantime, I'd consider any comparisons between the Rotax unit and the RSV4's V4 mill an apples to oranges evaluation.

Its good to note too that Mr Biaggi was able to put on an excellent showing throughout WSBK this year. It could not have come about if the V4 design was unreliable.

Is there a possibility that while developing the V4 Engine, Aprilia enlisted the help of Rotax as a technical advisor?

They could have like a technical agreement during the development of the V4.

Interesting that nobody has drawn the connection to the other Aprila built engines, which by any ones account have proved excellent. The Shiver, DD, and Mana, aren't as high-strung, but speak volumes for the quality of the home built engines. Comparison to the Rotax power plants is useful, because we understand how well (or poorly) warranty issues are dealt with ect., but as a manufacturer, Aprilia stepped up to the big leagues when they started building their own engines, and building them well.

Well, My friend has an 06 GSXR that has left him by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere twice.

Oxidation from inside the tank plugged his injectors the first time.

The fuel pressure regulator that snaps to the fuel pump inside the tank came apart 500 miles from home. He spent the night waiting for help....

At least an oil leak won't leave you stranded...

I have owned a few bikes over the years and My trusty old RSV has been the best designed and engineered bike I have ever owned.

Highly unlikely they needed any advice from BRP. They had Claudio Lombardi design the RSV4 engine, who had experience designing engines for Ferrari racing...

The 02 GSXR TPS was known to be gapped out a little too far so when the engine heated up and using a power commander you would wind up stuck. It was one of the first thing I fixed after I got stuck in Round Rock after visiting the former Ape dealer there.

Another thing is that informed sources in the Aprilia family will tell you that Rotax didn't design the RSV1000 engine, Aprilia did. Rotax manufactured it for them. They outsourced the production, not the design. It should go without saying that Rotax indeed was involved in the design process.

So the term "Rotax engine" in this context is as misleading as saying like "everyone" does, that the Audi S8 has a Lamborghini engine. (If you didn't now, it's in fact the other way around. The Lambo has an Audi engine ).

Whatever, the RSV4 is an absolutely fantastic ride and a brilliant experience, get one, enjoy!
(Sure, mine leaked oil like crazy, easy fix under warranty, no worries)

If I may, allow me to correct this information. Rotax has/had nothing to do with anything RSV4. Even the race team did not have initial input on this bike. Everything was engineered and manufactured in house in Noale Italy at the Aprilia factory.
