    So,

My Friend has an 09 SR50R as do i, and his keys open all my locks and turn on my ignition and even start my scoot. but mine dont work with his. pretty weird stuff, i would expect better from Aprilia.

Apparently the 'immobiliser' is not working. I would take it to Aprilia.

Ya, my father sold cars for over 35 years and use to keep any extra set(s) of keys that would sometimes come with them in a large box. They had tags on them that would say the year, make and model of car or truck on it. They would come in handy if the costumer lost their sets of key(s). But, on some occasions, if my father lost a key, or more often a key was locked in a car (that happened a lot after a test drive) and that was the only set of keys, he would go to this large box of keys and start to see if any would fit. And more often then not (like 8 out of every 10 attempts), he would find a key that would work.

HG probably knows the stats for GM, but there are only so many key combinations that a manufacture uses and if they produce several thousand makes each year, they are bound to have a few duplicates. Know multiply that by the number of years that that blank style is used and you get to see the picture. Especially if they, like the big 3 did, continue to use the same key blanks for so many years...

That is the one true advantage to the “chip in the key” that works on many immobilizer equipped vehicles. Sure you may find a key that may fit and even work the lock/ignition, but the chances that that other key would have the same chip code as yours is slim to none…

But if his bike is a carb, his key shouldn't have the transponder chip, hence, your immobilizer should stop it from starting your scoot.

    [edit]

Oh wait, because we're in the ditech section I had assumed your's was efi, I checked your sig and seems I was mistaken in my assumption.

When I worked for Toyota years ago, each model had a 4 digit key code, so there were 9,999 possible key codes for each model. Of course, I don't know if they were actually cut 9,999 different ways.

My old '88 4Runner had it's ignition barrel so loose that the key would fall out while driving. Also, it could be started with any key... or anything shaped like a key... or not shaped like a key... Anything basically... It had a zillion key codes all at once ^_^

I was with someone at a large shopping entre carpark some years ago and when she pressed the button on her key to unlock her car remotely another car about 20 feet away unlocked!! I swear thats the gods honest truth, something I would have thought unlikely to ever happen. Like what are the odds!?!?! long odds but very possible
