Got an Iridium plug (Motorworld, got it in in 2 hours) was going to order of E bay but they got one in and it was about a tenner so not that much dearer than ordering off the Bay (plus postage).
Removed the seat , then the connections and the tank, couldnt find the two breather pipes listed. Than found they were already disconnected and looked like they had been for some time. There were two outlets on the inner wall of the tank on the nearside. Then found the two breather / drain hoses but obviously didnt know which was which ( or even if it made any difference, i assume they both just drain down towards the floor).
Went to change the plug , but found all my socket sets didnt have the correct size plug socket (18mm) so had to use the tool kit supplied box spanner. This isnt actually long enough to clear the rocker covers of the engine and i found getting a bar through it to turn it a real pain (must get a propper socket)
Replaced the plug, (then found the only set of feeler guages i could find were in imperial not metric, comes from having diesel cars for the last few years, not needing them)
Worked out that the gap needed was about 26-28 thousands, (hope thats right)
Replaced the plug (again stuggled with the box spanner a bit) and put it all back together again.
Fired up ok, i was worried it may take a bit of turning over after having disconnected the fuel line.
All back together again.

Well that was an absolute disaster. Seemed to be going fine then started to cut out and stall, seems to be when its hot after riding about 15 miles , come into traffic and wherre you could coast along and filter plodding along it cuts out or stalls.
Checked all the connections , nothing obvious, Nipped to Halfords and managed to get a T piece style plug spanner in 18mm, (no propper sockets) so managed to get it home and stripped it back down and re gapped and cleaned the original plug and stuck that back in fornow (see what happens tommorow when it gets warmed up).
R
It wont idle when hot , it misses the odd beat and then stalls. So hopefully it was a dodgy plug, but ive cleaned all the connectors off anyway, those petrol pipes seem to get a bit jammed between the frame and tank when it goes back on but there isnt any other way for them to go that i can see, (and thats how they were when i took it off).
R
are the fuel tank breathers clear ?
i put my plug in without re gaping
they come pre gaped ther was a big discussion in the room about iridium plugs and re gaping
Just to 2nd what punisher_uk has said about making sure the tank breather pipe is clear. Making sure that it is clear will have your bike starting and running much better. I did not adjust the gap on my iridium plug and it is fine.

Cheers for the replies guys.
which are the tank breathers ? , there are two nipples sticking out on the inner (frame side) on the nearside (left) of the tank. They appear to go to two rubber hoses about 10mm dia which run down through the frame. These were disconnected already when i came to take the tank off the first time, there isnt much slack on these hoses which makes it difficult to pull them up and connect to the two nipples. I dont know which is which, Im thinking they should breath the same whether the hoses are on or not as they vent to air.
R
yep thats them
i had probs after running bike for a while it would cut out
one pipe drains spilt fuel and the other allows the tank to breath
mine were blocked in the nipple had to unscrew them and use a small drill bit to clean them out then a pice of wire up inside and blow thro
seems to be a fault on the all models ,
the pipes just thread down and out under the bike
Well, swaped the old plug back in and its running fine again now. So did i disturb something when i fitted the Iridium plug or is it the plug itself. (could be me gapping it to 0.7) anyway, its running again which is the main thing. I do think its tad smoother with the Iridium plug (apart for the obvous cutting out issue). May take the plug back and change it. When i bought it, it didnt have the little screw on cap on the top,(so used the one off the old one) dont suppose anyone can remember if theirs had it can they. If it should have been on this may suggest the plug i got had been opened or disturbed prior to my getting it.
I will check the tank drain and breather nipples the next time i get the tank off. ( I take3 it petrol doesnt come poutring out of them when you undo them, shouldnt do but just wanted tobe certain).

no its quit safe to pull pip off then unscrew the nipples![]()
Quick spin up to the Ponderosa , rubbish weather though.

Hi, Do you still have the Tibet, I have just bought one and wondered if it might be yours or if not we could meet at the ponderosa cafe sometime and have a pair of them together?
Hi SJL,
I notice you are in Bolton so I presume you visit the top barn when the weather permits on a Sunday, I do so maybe we could meet up there in the future.
