Since we've not seen any photos posted showing the final product of this "heat gun transformation", I have my reservations. Fairly certain that it would not pass my aesthetic test. Hard to change the molecular makeup of an item without having it look FUBAR. Heatgunning something is a far cry from ABS welding, which can work perfectly.

That's great info. Just do the calculations to Nm and you'll know what spring to get.

Divide by 2.2 multiply with 9.82 and divide again with 25.4 to get N/mm

Or just multiply the value in the chart with 0.1757

I find the recommendations on the hard side.

Fixer has asked me if i would add this to this thread so others can use the info if they want.

A few pics of the mods i have done to get her handling and stopping better

Tuono forks, Falco mudguard, 4 pad brembo calipers, EBC HH pads, 320mm discs, forged OZ wheel, 5.1 fluid, rear AP8240 ohlins with remote preload adjuster, pretty happy with the final job.

I did not have to alter the battery tray on mine, it was tight but did fit once i got my sledge hammer out

The shock swap is straight forward, just a bit fiddly and i don't have much skin left on my knuckles, but i am sure if you are going to tackle this you will know that is par for the course.

Set the sag at both ends now just need to get out and see what she is like, will have to wait till next spring though.

I used to be indecisive......now i am not so sure

    Round 2?

Been a while since this mod and was thinking about doing the same for the front. Has anyone attempted to install an Ohlins fork on their Futura?
    How hard could it be?

The way I did it was to disassemble the fork legs and then in a lathe reduce the diameter from 56mm to 53mm.

I also had 1mm thick spacers made for the upper clamp.

Had to buy the caliper bolts which fits the öhlins fork and then I installed
an old mille style front fender as the original fender sits very high up above the front wheel and looks strange on the Öhlins fork.

320mm brake discs are needed as well and probably other bolts to attach them

    Hey guys,
I want to bring up the springs again as I am getting ready to the Ohlins on my bike.
I weigh around 220 and while I like the sporting aspect I do not want to make this a pure track bike as I have one already.
So what is your experience with the springs that you have installed on yours over time. Can they cruise on the freeway as well as they cut a rug?

With my skinny weight of 73kg I can say that the 110Nm/mm spring is on the edge of being too hard on the road.
I usually have the side bags installed.

With passenger and full preload (hydraulic preload adjuster) it is very good for cruising.
If I could change I would try a 105N/mm to take the speed bumps a bit better.

Got to go out for a ride a couple of days ago on the shock.
    Oh what a nice change.
Rode on a nice road with long high speed sweepers, lots of washes, cattle grates, and other undulations to test this shock. combine that with it being clean pavement with only 5 vehicles in 100 miles of riding and
you get a really good test course for the new shock.
It may need a click or two more rebound but I definitely think we are onto something.

Unforetunately, my susupension guy will not be back until Feb. to start on my Mille forks, but he has some promising ideas.

    Hello to everybody!

By occasion I am installing Ohlins rear shock.

    Just a silly question:
Do I have to do linkage mod? Unfortunately, I have no dog bone and triangles...
Will standard Futura's rear suspension link and triangle fit?

Not a problem using the RST shock linkage if you have the shock with the 95N/mm spring. Check after installation that you have clearance between the dog bone and the lower shock mount with the bike on the center stand (shock fully extended).
