Question Low end Beo 200 performance weak?

Does anybody have issues with low end acceleration on their beo 200?
I have a 2008, and it seems to fly once I hit about 40 km/h, but below that it seems to accelerate fairly slowly...

It's only got about 100-150km on it... Does it just need breaking in?

    Thanks!

    Gets Better

I had the same problem with my Beo 200. It gets better with time. I think I was close to 1000 before it started accelerating properly. I agree though, it really picks up around 40 km/h.

With all the discussion around the recall stuff... I wonder if it may be part breaking in, and part due to the recall issues...?

For me, at this time, it's a huge problem.

A couple of weeks ago I took my Illinois motorcycle drivers test and during the speed up to simulate a panic stop the tester said I didn't reach the required 15 mph (24 kph), so she failed me.

In the test you only get what seems like 10 or 12 feet to reach that speed. After I got home I found I could only reach that speed, at that distance, when I really crank the throttle.

I'm going to take the test again this week and I guess I will look like a lunatic with my engine screaming and in a racers tuck just to reach the required speed.

What the hell, just so I get my endorsement so I can truly begin to ride instead of putting up with the stupid learner permit rules.

Malossi Multivar 2000 is your medicine. I suggest that.

If you haven't verified that the recall work has been done on the 2008-2009, it is likely to be the issue. I had the same exact problem, but immediately after work done, new scoot. acceleration smooth from the start.

    Well, there's the rub.

If the dealer says they did the recall work, how am I to tell? I just don't feel I can trust their word that they did the work. These are the same guys that tried to charge me for the stock windshield.

With the scoot still under warranty I'm a little leery of doing any hose re-routing or other things without a walkthrough of EXACTLY what to do.(with pics)

I would call the dealer directly and state the problems still exist and you'd like them to re- address it while it is under warrenty.....If that doesn't work- I'd call aprilia's NY offices and find recourse ( especially since their agent attempted to sell you an included item) Did you get the recall sticker that comes when the work is done? Do you have another certified Aprilia dealer in the area ( might be a haul, but good service may be worth a drive)

I'd definitely have them look again. One thing I realize on my 500 is that the start is relatively slow compared to a standard 500 or the speeds it attains once on the move. t has to do with the scooters setup too. It is made to run at mid speeds smoothly. In order to accomplish this, the variator uses weights that are heavier than what you would use for fast starts. This is so the RPM's aren't crazy at 30mph.

Where would that sticker be attached?

It is supposed to be in the glove box, but none of my decals distinguish recall work specifically, I have a call into the dealer/ Aprilia tech.

I made quite a large improvement on the off the line performance of the scoot by removing the emission system. Especially I think the EGR valve dumps a lot of exhaust gases and chokes the scooter when you open it up at low revs, hence it acts peaky like a two stroke.

I'm gonna do just what you suggested in the emission removal thread ,(the short version).
The canister bit is a cinch, but to access the egr valve will be a pain.

I started last night, but after seeing how many screws there are to remove the various panels to get to said valve, I decided I need a couple of free hours to do it right.

I'm gonna try to just snake my hand in there somehow to remove and plug that egr hose rather than complete panel removal.

I had my rollers replaced because of premature wear,
They were getting flat sided at 800 km.

Now my belt makes a rrrrrrrr sound at slow speeds when the engine is hot,
I call it my baby cow sound, The dealer can't figure out what the problem is.

I suspect that the clutch is the problem, Only because a friend of mine
had the same noise on his Vespa GT200 before his clutch burnt out.

I think Aprilia should hire me as a beta tester for their scooters,
I've had more than my fair share of problems with the Scarabeo 200.
