    aftermarket brake lines and Helibars

I was wondering who has installed aftermarket front brake lines, and has bar risers. Did you have to special order a longer brake line? Also, post up what brand you went with, and where you got 'em. Thanks.

I'd also be interested in the same with clutch lines. My Falco clutch seems alot smoother; however I have the aftermarket (MPL) clutch slave and Galfer lines. And, I don't know when the previous owner changed the fluid.

Hell, while we're at it...DOT 4 vs. 5.1 brake fluid??????

    Dot 4 of course.
Don't have risers but do have radial masters. Lines from Hel fit perfectly. Dunno where my then dealer got them but they were replacements for the Spiegler lines that had rusted

DOT 5.1 is compatible with DOT 4.

    DOT 5.0 is not.

Big difference between DOT 5 and DOT 5.1

    Yips, 5.1!
My former dealer advised it: "Could be better as well for the clutch slave to avoid leaks."
Changed the rubber gasket and oil and didn't have problems since. I didn't say it is because of the dot 5.1

I had Gen-Mar risers on my old Futura. I did not have to change out the brake or clutch hydraulic lines to fit them. I currently have the Heli-bars on my new(er) Futura. No changes were required on the hydraulic lines to fit them, either.

I used DOT 5.1 last year and this year I´m using DOT 5 (silicone) as a test for the clutch.

Put in a brand new clutch slave seal and flushed the system when going to DOT 5.

At the end of the year I will know which fluid discolours the most.
The 5.1 was pretty dark after one year even after internal cleaning of the slave cylinder at the beginning of the year.

I have the longer Galpher lines with Heli Bars. The setup is excellent. I've ridden an RST with the Heli Bars and stock lines. The stock lines will limit your ability to adjust the bars.

I had the GenMars. Those were useless but didn't require longer lines. The Heli's w/ longer lines is the way to go. A nice clean install and the lines provide for maximum adjustability. The fairing and tank being the limiting factor.

BUT, take note, if you are going to consider the radial masters, the lines would be different, yet again. So think through that first.

And yes, I did the clutch line too. I also have the Evo slave. When I road an RST with stock clutch line and slave, I couldn't wait to get off of it! It felt terrible.

I installed the Helis with the radial controls from AF1...the steel lines fit fine and don't restrict bar movement. Now that I've been using them for a couple of years, I can't imagine a Futura without them. The radial kit was expensive, but worth it IMHO.

I have Heli bars with Spiegler SS lines that are 1.5" longer than stock although 1" over would have been plenty.
The stock line will work if you remove the clamp that holds the line in place on the lower triple clamp.

"if you are going to consider the radial masters, the lines would be different, yet again. So think through that first."

Would you mind expanding on this?. I would like to get braided lines, but also have a mind to fit radial master cylinders in the future. Is it just an issue of length in which case I could just get slightly longer lines now, or do the radials take a different size banjo etc?.

Banjo's same size but have different angle to connect to m/c. If lines are long enough you can get them on but can foul if I remember correctly if the bend on the banjo is wrong.

What he said:-) And that's what AF1 said too. I haven't actually seen the difference.

On my plane ride to the MotoGP I sat near the guy's from BCM, a Ducati shop. They told me the same thing as the same issues occurs on some of the Duc's if you make the swap. They suggested putting on 998 masters. Not the radials, but better than stock and a lot cheaper than the radials. I've not heard anyone actually doing that though.
