Project: AF1 to AM6 powered Race motorcycle

Hi,

I am currently rebuilding my Aprilia AF1 308 Sintesi (1989) after i crashed it in February.

So here is whats going to be done
New forks done
New clip-ons done
New jokes done
Modifying the frame to fit a AM6 should be done next week
installing a AM6 should be done next week
Installing a Honda RVF400RR race body and windscreen
Modifying the RVF body for the AF1 head and tail lights working on that
Installing a Honda CBR400RR Fuel tank (16L)working on that
Modifying the CBR tank to fit and work correctly and installing new locks. should be done sunday
Custom dails in the cockpit and new Plexiglas lenses. working on that
Making a custom riders seat.
Fitting 110-90/16 front and 130/80/17 rears.

I got all the parts already, AM6, Race Fairing, forks.

Hope fully the cop´s will think i´m on a really RVF and won´t give me speeding tickets

The wheels and the mono arm on the AF1 are exactly the same as the RVF so that looks quite nice too.
(50cc over here must go 45km other wise you have some explaining to do. So all are normally restricted to 45 km the am6 should power the bike along at about 80/90km with out any ristrictors and)

i´m going to reinforce the mounting points and i think i´m going to put some steel or stainless mesh in the fairing as added strengthening since it´s a light weight race fairing

how much has it set you back all together then?

the AF1 was about 900 euros (actually 300 with the insurance money from the accident with the RST)

A suspension bearing overhaul front and rear 350 euros done by my local Triumph dealer

The body was 225 euros (very cheap for a race body)
The Engine was 400 euros
the forks and jokes 80 euros (got a great deal)
I don´t know how much the frame is going to cost in modifications i expect round 70 euros.
the tank was 50 euros in great condition also a very good deal.
chain and other stuf. 60 euros

seat will be round 30 pounds
wind screen will be about 40 pounds
thank lock will cost me 20 pounds

going to import a lot of stuff from the UK.
the stickers are free since companies are more than happy to send you stickers (some send really nice good quality stuff)

in parts that i need to buy it´s costing me 895 euros ex the bearings and stuf that needed to be done last year.
i´m going to sell my original AF1 body, engine, seats, forks and fuel tank.
with some good luck i should get about 225-250 euros from that so that pay´s of the body and a few other bits.

i expect the AF1 to have a value of 1,200 euros after all this is done
I think i will be spending 1.545 on the bike when i am done that´s including bike and insurance money.

if i sell the spare parts i don´t need i guess i will be break even when i sell it (i´m going to keep this bike for as long as possible if i get a car i will keep it for short trips)

with what uve spent you could of just bourght a rvf and do your full test lol

is it just me or does everything seem expensive were you are ?

Stuff here and certainly for mopeds (with gears) is expensive here.
My friends say i´m crazy to spend this kind of money on my bike (they hate racer bikes anyway) but they spent more on new engines and other stuff then me and there still going to lose money when they sell so that does not bother me that much.

The parts i bought where al very cheap (for dutch standards) the Tank is worth i guess 75-100 euro and i bought it for 50.

These weekend i´m going to add some fiberglass to the fairings (there to light weight for road use)

And i am going to drill a new fuel out let in the CBR tank and fill up the old one (which is to much to the side and hits the frame)

I hope the keep this bike for a while since every thing is with in 4km of my home i don´t really need a car straight a way so i will be saving up for a old C3 or C4 Corvette.

good luck with the project, should look good when you've done.
How are you going to fit the 130 rear tyre cos i used to have a 120 on my af1and it rubbed the swingarm, so replaced it with a 110.

i hear from a lot of guys that a 120 fit´s fine and you will need to remove or modify the chain cover for a 130.

This is awsome. I love a good project bike. Dont you think the Honda tank will look to wide for the bike. An RS50tank and cover may be a better fit....but I'm not there to see in person so we will have to trust you....Good luck,cant wait to see the final product.
