    Track/Race Laverda in Dallas

I saw a super cool orange and white full fairing former race/track Laverda sitting on the show room floor at North Texas Super Bikes. I don't know what yr it is but I would say it is a 1995-2000. I asked about it and I think one of the owners buddies owns it and he said they tried running it a yr or so back and the carbs leaked, etc. I don't think it is not listed for sale but if someone wanted a cool bike they could probably pick it up pretty cheap.

    Cheers

    Was it one of these?

If so, it's a fun agile bike but lacks power and has been known to grenade if pumped too far, plus parts are non existant.

Carbs leaked? or something of that ilk. The 750 Formula in the picture had EFI. Wicked fun to ride. Cranks? Sigh.

I'm pretty sure, but definitely not positive, that all the Zane era Laverda's were EFI.

The owner of Seacoast Sport Cycles, Charles Sandoz raced a Laverda Diamante in 1998 and 1999 and won several LW and middleweight championships on it. It was protested repeatedly for not being a DOT approved motorcycle in North America. And many thought it was an unfair advantage. Ironically it was DOT approved and he had the paperwork to prove it. The only problem was since Laverda was such a small company it was perhaps the only one in the country. The only thing unfair about it was the rider, (Sandoz rode the hell out of the little bike) and it was never the fastest bike on the grid. After repeated protests CCS decided it would not allow the bike to compete in 2000.

It wore 5 spoke Marchesini magnesium wheels and 916 bodywork. Since it was right hand drive the rear wheel was mounted backwards so the spokes faced the wrong way (the rear was made for a CBR600 F3).

At the time it was Orange and Blue and looked like a Roadway Trucking 18 wheeler. Perhaps it's the same bike?
What the hell does "ride it like you stole it" actually mean?

Yep, that sounds like the bike. I do remember it being Roadway truck orange. It is defintely a cool older ride. I am sure someone that could appreciate the bike could pick it up fairly cheap.

actually bike you saw at north texas was one of two 850 cc bikes produced, this one being the test mule for the 850 racer that was run in AMA Pro thunder. I also saw the bike and it was definitely a test mule, missing gauges, dent in exhaust pipes, etc.

It is my understanding that the actual 850 racer is now in a collection in Arizona.

More info about the 850 racer is at http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us
