    brake caliper colors

I have the red calipers and I want to take them apart so they can be powder coated. Has anyone ever disasembled these before? I think they just have "O" rings to seal the two halves right?

    Painted Calipers .

I do know someone who did just what you're planning except that he painted his rather than powder coating. He said when I talked to him last time which was a few weeks ago that they came apart 'no problem at all' and that reassembly was also no problem ..

Unfortunately I cannot get any more info. at the moment.

    y2k9mille,

Dismantling is not a pronlem at all but if you just leave them mounted at least you will protect the surfaces of the pistons and bores from being coated too. Why don't you just coat them as they are with the pistons out just unto the edge of theit bores and some screws in the places were you have the bleeders etc. in order to prevent paint and (powder) getting in. If you get paint or coat int the callipers it might give you a hell of a job too clean them.

    Crono

    BTW

Red calippers is a 1998 or 1999 model (in Europe)

I did my M3 calipers with that G2 brake paint.
That stuff is awesome once it sets up.
It goes on like paint but drys like a slick, thick epoxy

crono, the rubber seals will melt in the oven during the curing of the powder coating plus the brake fluid would be hard to get out to not cause contamination.

I thought about that paint but did you guys that painted them remove the factory coating prior to painting?

    Rubber Seals Melting ..

I was wondering about that too .. Powder coating usually occurs at around 250c ?

Anyway the idea is to remove the seals first isn't it ?

Iwas thinking about having some OZ wheels powder coated, and was concerned about the tempreture effecting the aluminium, thats when the man told me 250c, which is not a problem for drop forged wheels, but for rubber it would be.

Bikes brakes aren't nearly as bad as cars but the keo to the paint was to make sure the calipers were clean clean clean. I scrubbed the crap out of mine with a steel brush, steel wool and lots of brake cleaner
