I would guess this thread could go on another five years and in the US at least, you will never see another one. Only 148 were ever built, and never officially imported into the US. If there were more than 10 in the States I would be surprised.

Not convinced this is a real ad, but for the money (and the bike runs and has compression), it would be a good candidate for a cosmetic restoration and have a very cool and unusual vintage bike. Don't see too many on this side of the pond.

    Here's a Craig's List bike of note

Should be listed in the category - Yes, I do think you're that stupid!

Advertised for $2500, which is about 1/3 of its market value. One unfortunate dent in the lower left front of the tank - noticeable, but not horrible. Still, you know what they say about something that seems too good to be true. So I PM the supposed owner using CL mail, and this is what I get...

    Hey,
I'm selling it because my husband died 2 months ago (he had a heart attack) and it brings me bad memories, that's the reason I want to sell it a.s.a.p.The total price is $2,500. No damage or hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained. I have clear title, without liens or loans on it, everything is under my name. Me and my son decided to sell the house and we moved to my parents house in Duck Creek Village, UT trying to start a new life. We need to meet up to my parents place or I can arrange delivery - it will cost the gas money and I will pay for it.

I want to use eBay Motors services (5 days of testing prior purchase) for the safety of both of us, so if you’re interested in purchasing, please provide me your full name for the bill of sale, your full address and a phone number so I can notify eBay that you're selected as my possible buyer, and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
I'm surprised she didn't ask for my banking information. This has to be total bullshit. She's a sad widow, using grammar like one of those Nigerian scam artists, who'll sell me a bike for far less than it's worth, and reimburse me for the round trip fuel costs? And I have 5 days of testing after purchase when I can return it for a refund through some eBay service? This doesn't pass the sniff test. Or do you think I'm being too cynical?

I look forward to hear from you!
    Don't hold your breath.

    Thanks!

P.S. I have attached the pics to the email, the specs are below:
    Item specifics
    Condition: Used
    Year: 1974
    Mileage: 11,353
    Exterior Color: Red
    Make: Norton
    Engine Size (cc): 850
    Type: Cruiser
    Vehicle Title: Clear
1974 Norton 850 Commando, very clean unrestored original condition, late 1974 production, runs good, starts easy, everything works the way it should, mukuni carburetor, original paint, original 11K miles.

Ask her for a pic of her driver's license and one of a utility bill at her address and see what happens.

I'm sure she is a he.

Almost definitely a scam, but it is interesting that neither Google or TinEye have seen that image before. Typically scammers get their images using public sources, which typically makes it easy to find the original source for the image. Interestingly that's the only image in the ad (one would expect a legit ad to have more than one picture), and the one in the ad is low resolution (where did you get the high resolution copy?). Can't really make anything useful out in the reflections of the shiny bits. That also doesn't look very Arizonay in the picture, but then there isn't a whole lot to go by.

If the Norton add was true I would buy it and ship it back to the uk to make a big profit .

Of course it's a scam, ebay DOES NOT provide any services that are not part of it's auctions/sales on it's site, period.

First thing I did was search the net for other images - none found. She (he?) sent me a bunch of high res pics in another email. Yeah, I noticed the non-Arizona landscape immediately, but remember - she sold the house and moved to Duck Creek Village, Utah. No utility bills, because she sold the house and moved into her sister's. And no need for a driver's license - her son does the driving. This fuckwad tried to cover all the bases, including supposedly having moved the bike to Utah. Would I send any money sight unseen? No way. But someone greedy enough or stupid enough might be tempted. Finally, this person knew way more about the bike than any grieving widow is likely to know, including the maintenance history and Mikuni conversion. Total scam.

Correct. That issue was the final nail in the coffin for this scammer.
