    Left Blinker Stopped Working

I noticed on my ride yesterday that my left blinker (front, back, and dash light) stopped working. Everything works fine on the right side though. Is it most likely the switch? Is it user serviceable, or do I need a new one? Could it be a fuse?

Btw, I know, blinkers are for cruisers, but there are a lot of cops on my commute and the SXV gets enough attention as it is.

I went through this with the right side exactly as you say. Here is what you can consider.

It could be the switch, but it is probably not. You can unplug the switch harness from behind the headlight and test the switch for continuety through the harness plug. You have to remove the headlight / enclosue but that is pretty easy. There is a wiring diagram on here somewhere.

Since there is only 1 flasher and one side works then the flasher and fuse are good. If one lamp was burned out you would have the remaining one on that side flash quickly. Double check the lamps. (Oh BTW mine is '08 with regular bulbs) If you are LED they practically never fail.

This means one of three things. 1. the switch is bad. 2. The harness has an open in it between the aforementined plug behind the headlight and the point where the wire splits to go front to rear. 3. the harness is shorted to ground somewhere. (my problem)

One thing you can do to isolate it further is to pull the right plastic side cover and unplug the harness connector feeding the rear lights. You will see how your right side will flash fast with only the front working. Try the left side and if the front flashes but not the rear then there is a short to ground in the rear. If the front does not flash then there may be a short to ground in the front harness.

On mine the rear wiring under the top plastic tail piece got pinched. There is a lack of protection for the wires in this area and some of the rear subframe it sits in has sharp edges.

With the rear harness unplugged you can find the ground (blue wire), ground it and jump a hot from the battery into the pins on the tail harness and see if it all works. If it all works then the problem is up front. In my case I got a spark when I jumped the non working rear flasher pin in the tail harness indicating a short to ground in the tail. Was easy to fix.

Once you eliminate the switch and then determine if it is front or back start stripping the body wok off of it and examine the harness closely. I will bet you will find it. Also, with everything hooked up try wiggling the harness in various areas to see if you can make it work.

Based on what you say and what I went through it is not a fuse, and it is not a burned out bulb (unless both are burned out)

That leaves the switch and the harness. And the harness can be easily separated behind the rt side cover. Take it from there! Report back what it is so we know.

If you have an ohm meter or continuity tester it would be easy to test the bulb first before troubleshooting the whole wiring harness.

Cool, thanks for the help. I'm pretty sure it's got to be either the switch or the harness since the dash light doesn't flash for the left blinker but it does for the right. I'll check it out tomorrow if I don't go shooting.

I too had this issue.... It's not the switch.... I switched the wires & the switch works ,,,, So...... I Tested everything & for some reason I lose power between the flasher relay & the lights.... Still don't know why, it's buried in the haress somewhere..... I ended up rewiring the whole ciruit, this time using the parking light as the power source & everything has worked fine since....

    Strange though....

one more puzzling piece of information...I removed my tail assy for a track day, when I re-installed it somehow the rr turn signal wires were not completely seated....my front light did not light or flash at all, I cant remember if the idiot light lit or not. I rechecked the connectors to find one loose, it worked fine ever since...

Make sure all your connections are tight and the wires in the tailsection have not been cut....I remember someone elso on here with a short attributed to the rear frame section.

    either way good luck,
