    Danger danger!!

My 200 Scarabeo does not have self canceling turn signals. I am desperate for ideas on how to stay on top of the turn signal situation before I kill myself or someone else. My full face helmet doesn't help as it cuts off vision to the dash.

    Anyone have any slick ideas?

Well, you should get trained for it, because there's not a lot of motorcycle that cancels signal by themselve.

    Radio Shack

Years back I installed a small beeper tone generator on a friend's scooter. I got it at Radio Shack for a few $s and it still works. There are flasher units available with a tone generator. Some of the Taiwan and Chinese scooters use them. I know Adly, a Taiwan brand, uses them. Maybe you could order one. Here's a description of the procedure to install on a Vespa. Your scooter shouldn't be much different. http://www.modernvespa.com/forum/topic449.html

    Parts Needed:
Radio Shack Piezo Buzzer, RS part # 273-080, $6.39
    Radio Shack Diode 2-pk, RS part # 276-1101, $0.59

I got a beeper on one of my old mc's - cheap and a good help

I always remember to turn of now

But I think there should be self canceling on all mc's by law.

Aprilia Atlantic got it - It self cancels after 400 meter driving or 2 min waiting - which one comes first

Should be required - can be deadly. It amazes me what you find on the internet - sometimes slow economy can be fun.

    Still looking!

    self retracting seatbelts too?

If you don't wear a full face helmet you won't drive 1/2 the day with you signal on. Since you can see the green light flash on and off... You might hear the car on your ass too or get a bulging disk from the weight of a full face helmet.. let alone the neck injury they cause in an accident.

Best way to not forget is to not use them.. Use your arm and point.. People see it better and it's kinda hard to forget. LOL

I don't know why... but on the scooter I seem to forget the signal more than on my other bikes. Could be because I drive it more like a "toy" and don't feel like I'm on a "real" motorcycle. Maybe it;s muscle memory form riding my mini bike 40 years ago.

I rarely forget on the big bikes.. The scooter of late, I have caught myself going down the road with my signal on often?

For the record I wear a full face helmet 1/2 of the time. Even though I live in NH where we don't have to wear any helmet. I can carry 2 half helmets in the scooter and usually bring them.

Don't you check your gauges/dash? I always check my dash on whatever I am riding to make sure all is ok. Gives me a reminder should I forget to cancel a signal.

Buy a copy of Motorcycle Roadcraft.

Commit the 'system of motorcycle control' to memory and ride by that system.

You'll never forget anything in your riding once you've mastered it.

The book is the riding manual for all UK motorcycle police and forms the basis of the entry test for the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

BTW - if you don't wear a full face helmet you're a bloody idiot. Boots and gloves are also common sense, even on a small scooter. Losing skin hurts.

Yep, I see a lot of squids on rice rockets, gym shorts and NO shirt.. and a $700 full face helmet with a dark face shield (how DO they see in the rain, shade, dusk etc..) I guess that way they can live longer to enjoy the road rash before they die...

That's if they are lucky... Usually it's a "chair" for the rest of their life due to the neck injury caused by the 10 lb weight on the end of a neck that is just barely enough to work as is... Now add a few MPH and the neck does a very marginal job... Now add the weight of the full face helmet and ... rip pop or SNAP.....

The Motorcycle Police here in the states wear 3/4 helmets I guess they are all bloody idiots.

As I said I wear one. Along with my Mesh jacket with armor, gloves, jeans and usually boots. I can fit a half helmet so if a person wants a ride I at least HAVE a helmet even thought we do not HAVE to wear them...

now now fellas - lets stick to topic of idiot that cannot remember to turn off his turn signals!!

I wear a full face helmet and from my reading it is the way to go, but would never dream of criticizing anyone for their choice of helmet - in Idaho adults do not have to wear a helmet by law and many don't. Scream at these guys!!

My friend claims white is best visibility color, so that's what I got.

Made it all the way to work this am without forgetting to shut off my turn signals. I am looking at a 100 dollar thingy that shuts them off after a set time and has a bunch of other features that I am not too sure I need or want. I forget the name but if you do a web search for turn signals, motorcycles you can't miss them. Need to ask them if one of their models will fit my 200.

    Back to work!!

Are you saying a full face helmet is dangerous due to the weight?
