Hard Drop Today on 2007 500ie

Okay... I decided to keep this scoot as I really like it... I was going up the road early this morning when I dropped it on some loose gravel (paved road) in a curve... Well, the scoot and I shared the damage about equally as far as I can tell. We both appear to work fine, but we don't look nearly as pretty as we did yesterday.

The primary area of damage is the left front turn signal area. The signal lens is intact, but the chromed part behind it is mangled and the signal hangs by its wire. Also, the glove box door does not close completely because the left (when seated) side of the inside fairing is bent back and ripped pretty good at the top and pushed back a little bit at the bottom. The entire inside front fairing/cover appears to be one piece and wil need replaced. Minor scratches on the front fairing and the headlamp bezel, but they look re-usable. Front fender is scratched pretty bad, but that can be painted. Logo is undamaged. Multiple scratches on the unfinished black area below the drivers left foot, less on the left passenger peg base, and just a few up on the silver painted area by the name "scarabeo." Also, there are some surface scratches on the windshield below the viewing area (not cracked) and the glass in the left mirror needs replaced (mirror assembly is good).

It appears I must remove the front fender to get the front fairing off and then I will be able to remove the glove box base and side vent parts. I might also need to take off the center tunnel, but I am not sure. I took off all screws I could access from inside of the glove box area, but that did not allow any parts to be removed. Does this require removing the front wheel, then the fender?

Does anyone stock these plastic panels? Do they come painted or unpainted? I do not know what all of these parts are called, but if I can get them off, they will have part numbers on them. How long does it take to get them if they are not stocked? How expensive are they?

I am glad that I have only minor cuts and some road rash. Left arm/shoulder is giving me a bit of pain too. I was wearing a jacket, jeans, and a 3/4 helmet with a face shield. The face shield popped off and is scratched bad, but I did not lose the helmet or my glasses. Steering, braking, and mechanicals on the scoot seem unaffected, but I was only riding 45 mph on the way home from the drop.

    Please advise. Thank you.

Did it just topple over at low speed??

Gnone is it? I'll be the first to say that I don't have extra plastic around. I can say that I think it is great that you are OK. That bike can be fixed. I almost lost it the same way on some sand about a month ago in a turn. Saved it somehow.
This is not something to fret about too much. Get the bike fixed and keep on riding. I'm sorry to hear that this happened but things wil be back to normal in no time.
    Have at it.

Sorry to hear about this, glad you are OK. I'm new to this scoot scene, but it seems to me that it wouldn't hurt to have your dealer give it a good look over. I don't know about parts, but I'm sure the dealer would know exactly what to do to get the parts ordered. I have heard that August is not a good month to get parts from Italy though.

    Good luck,

    Bipe

It sure can happen fast, can't it? I was at an auto parts store yesterday and when I was backing out of the parking spot, my foot slipped on some dirt. I didn't even come close to losing it, but I could have. It really gave me a start. The bike let me know immediately that it does carry a good amount of weight.

It happens. Glad you're ok. Fix the bike and go on.

I'm Glad that you and the bike are both repairable.
The 07 Beo paint codes are posted below. Any good auto paint store should be able to mix the paint. Some 07's use a base coat/clear coat process. Also ask your paint supplier for the primer requirements. Many automotive finishes require a specific type or color primer. A paint store that sells BASF paint will be the best choice because that is who made most of the paint for Aprilia. Buy a premium paint like a urethane. If you are not skilled in applying automotive paint then you can get a body shop to apply the paint for a reasonable price if the parts are prepared for painting. While at the body shop have them give you an estimate on fixing your own damaged body parts.
Good luck and send me a personal note if you have questions about painting.

If you go to the Yahoo scarabeo group (link below) and open files you will find a parts manual, this should give all the parts numbers so you can ask a dealer for availability.

Can you post pic.s of the damages on the bike? It doesn't sound too bad, I hope you keep riding. I have come close but knock on wood never dropped or dumped any of my bikes. I have driven over a 12 foot tree before. I used to run in rally america and my co-driver called for the wrong turn. oops.
We went off a 13 foot bluff on a blind corner.

    That sucked too.

Definitely go to the Yahoo user's group and download the service manuals linked there. They have pretty good step-by-step instructions for removing the front fairing (don't have to remove front fender), but not very much for removing the leg shield/glove box area. What I found was that once the front fairing was off, you unscrew the bag holder, and then the screws on the inside of the glovebox that screw down into the tunnel. You also have to remove the tunnel itself as it has a tab that locks into the area behind the glove box. None of this was particularly easy, so if you're going to have a dealer or body shop work with you you might just want to let them handle the whole thing.

Best of luck, and glad you're ok!

I'm reading More Proficient Motorcycling (Mastering The Ride) By David L Hough I think it is a Book that most of us should read.
