    Opening the damn ECU- Help

I've been trying to put in a FP chip and stripped the heads of the screws on the ECU trying to open them. They seem to be made of lead and loctited in...WTF!!!

I got a pencil blowtorch to heat the screws enuf to burn the loctite off...got one screw out then realized the other screws were too close to the motherboard and the shell was getting too damn hot.

Any suggestions....I'm sure others have faced the same issue.?? Failing this...I'll have to get the screws drilled out.

Suggestions and rants on the damn italian welcome!!

    Thanks,

    Stripped screw heads

Take a dremel or a hack saw and make a cut across the head of the screw, then use a flat head screw driver to back it out. This has worked for me everytime. I would stay away from the torch, if you melt the board inside, the ECU will be useless.

    Good luck.

    Vise Grips

Use a small set of vise grips. Clamp across the head, with the tool vertically oriented. Rotate the tool along the vertical axis. It should turn right out. Repeat.

    If options #1 & #2 fail,
Take the dremel and gring off the heads of the bolts.
Be careful & try not to hit the case too much
Once the cover is off, use the small vise grips to spin out the remaining stubs
They should turn real easy once the tension is off them
    Good luck

    Opening the damn ECU- Help

    Thanks for the suggestions gents,

I havn't on the forum for a few days but over the weekend I got the ECU screws out. The vise grip didn't work..but factorypilots suggestion of using a hacksaw to cut a notch did the trick. I got the FP chip chip in....and it makes a huge difference.

    cheers,
