    Strada Stage 1 mods complete...

    Hey fellow Pegasonado's...

Well it's taken about 8 weeks but my stage one mods are complete and I am thrilled with the results.

For anyone interested, here's what I've experienced. Hopefully this will assist you in deciding what to modify (if anything).

    Bike: 05/06 Pegaso Strada

    Mods:
    Akrapovic Carbon cans
    K&N filter
    Airbox vents
    A snorkel cut down
    Dynojet PCIII

    Results:

    Mod 1: Akrapovic Cans

    Baffles in and standard
Sound: way too quiet (quieter than stock)
    Power: no real improvement.
    Surging improvement/smoothness: slight
    Worth it?: No

Baffles modified (mesh at either end removed)
    Sound: Nice sound - inoffensive
Power: Some improvement, better throttle response.
    Surging improvement/smoothness: Noticeably better
Worth it: Aesthetically and sound yes, power no.

    Baffles Removed (looks MUCH better)
Sound: Initially VERY loud but gets quieter when carbon builds up and is now acceptable for all but long cruises.
Power: Very good improvement in toque, acceleration and over-rev. When you first ride with the baffles out you think the difference is good but not great. Then when you replace the baffles you realise how much better it goes without them.
Surging improvement/smoothness: Much better (almost as good as with PCIII)
Worth it: Definitely (and it looks trick and saves a lot of weight)

NOTE: When running pipe without baffles you MUST block off the AIS (Auxiliary Induction System). If you don't do this the backfires and popping sound like a gunfight in downtown Bagdad.

    Mod 2: K&N Filter
    Sound: N/A
    Power: slight difference.
Worth it: On its own - probably not. With pipes - yes because you need to get good flow of air both in and out of the motor so a pipe without a good flowing filter is a little pointless and vice versa.

    Mod 3: Cut back snorkel.
    Sound: More induction growl
Power: Some improvement to throttle response
    Surging improvement/smoothness: Improves both.
Worth it: Yes - it's free!

    Mod 4: Air box vents
Installed 5 airbox vent holes with micro foam filters. Adds about 2 sqaure inches of breathing area.
    Sound: None
Power: Hard to tell (not much I'd say)
    Surging: No difference
Worth it: In isolation no. Part of the stage 1 - probably it cost very little

    Mod 5: PCIII
    Sound: None
Power: BIG difference in toque and power. The difference between hard to wheelie in 1st gear before - now fairly easy to wheelie in 2nd (no clutch).
    Surging: Gone
    Worth it: Absolutely

    Summary:

I kinda wish I'd done all these mods at the same time so that the change would have been more dramatic rather than the incremental changes I experienced. However, my friend who rode it before has ridden it since and got to feel all mods combined. He couldn't believe the difference. It has gone from a plodder to a real little weapon and I get a real buzz out of riding something that I think is now performing to its potential.

I have purposefully left the cost of the mods out of this because it was / is not about money. It is about whether it was worth the effort and the satisfaction of the result. Whether it's worth the money is probably more a function of how much money you have and what else you could spend it on.
I got a really really good deal on my bike so even with the cost of these mods I am still way ahead. If I had paid full retail I may have thought twice.

When I get it on a dyno in the next couple of weeks I will post the results but the proof of the pudding is in the riding and it rides great.

Fantastic review, I'm going to print it out and make it a to do list.

You've not listed, blanking off the resonator box on the intake pipe. Do a search for it on here. it makes a significant difference. I would definately do that before your dyno run.

You know i was looking at the resonator when i had the tank off fitting the PCIII and thought about removing it but then thought it was probably a waste of time given that it is only supposed to reduce induction noise.
Please tell me the difference it made. If it sounds irresistable I'll do it but getting to it without taking the tank off is a pain in the butt and taking the tank off an even bigger one !

I thought that there were mixed views on the value in doing that, so I didn't. You seem clear about the benefits. Does this require a PCIII remap?

    Thanks

    Hmmm.

See the thing is that when you did the resonator mod, you did the snorkel at the same time did you not? Personally I feel the difference you experienced was due to cutting down the snorkel. There is no logical reason I can deduce for the bike making gains from removing the resonator box which serves only as a noise reduction device. Over at XT660.com they have dyno'd a bike with and without the resonator and found no difference whatsoever.

If I had the tank off still I'd do it cause it's free and does no harm but I think for the marginal or possibly no gains it will achieve - I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

    Body mods

Posted this before but this was my stage 1 body chop which I am very happy with. Looks way better than standard IMO.

    .
No. Snorkel was done well in advance. Tried it both cut, and totaly removed. The resonator also effects the way the air tumbes into the intake. It's free, you should do it.

I sold my Peg about a year ago,so cant remember too much about how it felt. I come on here to read the new Tuono forum as i want one of those next. But i like to check in on the Peg guys to see whats happening.
