    Forks And MOT

Hey um just a question does anyone know wether my fork would need replacing for MOT as they have got rust on them.... Not sure if the rust patch is serious enough. I heard somewhere that if the rust is not in line of travel then it isnt a problem.. Got pics !

    Thanks

If the seals don't reach the rust patch at full compression it's OK. If the seals pass onto the rust it'll tear them.

That said, the tester might anyway decide t hat over the year the rust is likely to spread.

You can save the cost of new tubes by cleaning all the rust off, covering the area with Araldite, and sanding it smooth to the match the contour of the chrome.

OK.. So i need to check the bike to see if they are in line of travel.

Does anyone know or has anyone attempted putting the upside down millie style forks on.. the gold coloured ones.

Just to know if they will fit before spending money.

    Thanks

Tbh, i don't know, but it is likely be alot of work. Far easier just to stick normal ones on.

I'd check the tyre tread depth (although for 50cc's i believe you are only required to have visible tread. Check all your lights work (brake lights, headlights etc.), check your brakes work well. Check your sprockets and chain are in good condition (and lube your chain quite often). Just stuff like that really.

    Reading your sig mate.
You can't get a turbo for a 2-stroke. Getting a larger front sprocket could be a bad move. A larger front sprocket will give more top speed but less acceleration. If you are redlining in 6th gear though then i'd go one tooth up (which i will be doing soon) as the higher you rev it the quciker it breaks. Make the engine work constantly. When mine goes over about 10k it dosn't 'pull' any more, it's basically just revving freely and no engine likes to do that.

Check the rear bushes by lifting the rear wheel of the ground - don't use a paddock stand as there has to be no load on the suspension - and grab hold of the ends of the swinging arm. Pull from side to side to check that there's no movement. While you're at it, pull on the wheel to test for play in the bearings.

turbocharging a 2 stroke is possible, the guys that race 2 stroke snowmobiles(not here in uk obviously) add turbos although its alot more complicated than on a conventional engine, the turbo has to be added after the expansion chamber.mechanical superchargers are more common but again not a simple installation.
detroit in the usa manufacture 2 stroke diesel engines that are superchargerd AND turbocharged on the same engine, theyre used in alot of construction type lorries and vehicles and mostly renown for being fitted in the the yellow school buses you see in the states.
    I MIGHT NOT HAVE A QUICK BIKE...BUT I GOT A QUICK CAR!!

but its easyer on the big 2strokes as they have a sump just like a 4stroke, so they dont have to worry about blowing reed valves open and such as they dont have any
