Question 2500 km trip. What to check and to bring with me?

    Hi all,

Next week I am going for a long (at least for me) trip. It is 1000 km ride per day. Total about 2500 km.

What is absolutely necessary to check on my bike? (besides oil, brakes, coolant and chain?)

Also, what do you take with you? Do you have more tools than what comes with a bike? Do you take extra oil with you? .....

What else do I need to be sure that I can solve most of the problems that I can encounter on 2500 Km trip?

Thank you very much in advance.

Normal maintenance checks to start with.
Personally I don't think the standard tool kit is that good so I swapped a lot of it out.I've got a multitool(leatherman) in there with a few other small spanners and wrenches.
Also worth keeping a tyre gauge as the petrol station ones aren't up to much.
A puncher repair kit, some latex gloves and maybe some cable ties.
I've also got a small first aid kit incase of any misshapes
All that fits nicely under my seat hump and stays there all the time.I'd also take some oil,for this years trip I'm going to try and make something to hold it behind the fairing so it's not in with my luggage.
Make sure you've got enough life left in your tires before you go because they can quickly go bald.

    Finally enjoy

mitchv60 thx very much for answer. You have some good advices.

I am now at 7000 km and when I come back 10 000 service will be on. I will do service in workshop where my friend works and he will teach me more about engine and bike itself. Than I will probably know more about what tools should I always have with me.

    Thx once more,

took mine from Cali to Colorado and back last year, about 2500 miles total(about 4000Km right?) . Ahh! Thanks for the chance to remember. Sweeet!

I did all servicing in Denver at the half-way mark. My manual says to do this after 1000 miles hard riding (I stayed and played for a few months).

Anyway duder, I only had one issue on the road to Colorado: the fuel tank/system pressure valve went sour. It started blowing fuel out the over flow hose onto me and the hot ti exhuast. Danger danger! There is a emergency bypass that requires snippers and a few zip-ties --if you don't blow I was luck to have a dude with me that knew how to do it. Might be worth your time to search for this info ahead of time

I heard that quick rises in elevation will do it to older bikes/pvalves. I came up like 6000 ft in about 2 hour (1800ish meters). I also heard that stopping and opening your tank up once in a while will prevent this from happening.

I have to also say that if my fuel over-flow hose was routed correctly I wouldn't have had fuel on me and the hot exhuast--might be worth checking the spill-hose routing too I know, sounds so lame.

I also was luck that I had a killer tank bag. I could rest my head and neck on it and I was able to put on more layers quickly when I got cold or weather changed.

Anyway, Have a killer ride bro. Posted us with highlights!
