    block melted

Last year I had the same problem with one of Mr Honda's finest.............

Blackbirds have a similar problem in the loom between the genny and reg/rec, this pic shows a problem in Exactly the same connector block as the one we're having 'potential' problems with on the Aprilias.

In my case I didn't spot it soon enough and because of the heat damage to the genn and reg/rec wiring I had to replace both at a considerable cost

As soon as my Tuono comes back from its 1st service I am doing the 'fix' as per 'Joe250's' excellent post.

PS. the picture is NOT of my bike, mine was MUCH WORSE than this one

    brown connector

I have seen these brown connectors used and fryed on both Yamahas and Hondas also. Maybe thats what they are there for, to fail before the stator does.

I don't think its the 7S. Mine is 7S000440, and I only had one connector. It was in fine shape, but I cut it out anyway.

I'm thinking at some point, in the build date, and VIN # progression that they swithched to the different alternator (the schematics show 2 different part numbers).

I just checked mine. Now mines an '06, one of the first off the line I guess. I have two brown connectors, neither have any signs of heat at all (but then I've never had ANY problems with my T - except for the fogging guages), so I'm leaving them alone, but I will keep an eye on them just the same.

This seems to be common among the Japanese models

I check mine and seems to be ok (2007.5 – purchased on December 31st 2007 – and it has ~4,000 miles). However, my mechanic (who is a kind of guru with all of the Japanese brands) tells me that this is quite common among all of the Japanese sport models. According to him, the fixed-up shown on this site is not a solution. The problem is not with the brown connector but rather with the design. Apparently, there are two easy and permanent solutions which he will do on mine during my next oil change. Of course, I have no idea what those solutions are.

The "S" means that it was built in Scorze.

I suppose a bike built in Noale would have an "N". I think that they're still building bikes in Noale.

I'm by nooooo means an electrical guru but I had thought about the use of some type of inline fuse that would fry before the catastrophic meltdown of the stator and wires? Anyone know if something like this would be a solution?

    For someone smarter than me.

Aren't these three wires just the field exciter for the generator?

That would imply that there's no real current going through them so the connector is indeed the problem. Replacing the connector(s) doesn't risk anything at all, just gets rid of a block in the electrical system.

But what the f**k do I know?

    And one more thing...

before I made the fix my screen said 14 volts, with occasional jumps to, say, 14.5.

After the fix it's steady on 14.4. All the time.

So something is different, probably in a good way.

It’s something worth keeping an eye on.

Today I reached the 4,000 miles, and during my scheduled oil change my mechanic inspected the infamous connectors. They were fine on mine, so for those of you lucky like me, this might be a simple solution (and it is what the mechanic did on mine):

Coat the brown connector lightly with a silicone heat-sink compound, including all wire connections (disconnect the wires, apply the compound and reconnect). Also, according to him the type motor oil used could make a difference by keeping the engine (or motor for the Europeans) running cooler ….? This last part did not make much cense to me, but that’s what he said.

One more thing, since we all love this Italian bike, I think is only fear to cheer for Roma (to beat the Brit’s team this week).

Well speaking a a Brit (but not a Man Utd fan who by the way are American owned) I'll try not to take offence.......even though I'd love to see them knocked out (I'm a Leeds Utd fan)

But Aprilia being made in Noale (Nr Venice,1hr from Milan) That part of the Italy would rather see anyone win other than Roma.....of that I'm certain.

But even I can't see Man Utd losing a 2 goal lead (and aways goals at that) at home tommorow

Checked mine. All is Ok. #258, built in Scorze.
My voltage is all over the place, 13.2 - 13.5 at idle, jumping to about 14.2-14.5 at about 3000 plus rpms.
