    Talking Newbie Picture

Picked up a new Futura on the 18th.

I took a small road trip up to the Blue Ridge Parkway with the Adventure Riders yesterday.

Great bike I am totally pleased with the bike.

Pretty soon I'll be carving those mountain roads like a Thanksgiving turkey.

    No wonder, it's Flame Red.

    Welcome, Jay!

Edited to add: check the underside of the seat, it'll most probably say '01.

    Welcome Jay!
I glad to see that you smart enough to pick the best color - The same color as my Futura.

When the bike is ready for the 600 mile service, make sure to ask your dealer to load the latest ECU map - It makes tha bike much smoother at low revs.

    Welcome Jay

Enjoy your new ride. You live in a great area of the country for riding. The Blue Ridge area is one of my favorites....

    Ride safe......

    Hi Jay, welcome.
If you can dig through the BS and red herrings, you'll find the forum members here a helpful and friendly lot.
Easily distracted (threads do get derailed on rare occasions) but entertaining and knowledgable.

You know the blue ones are really faster, we just don't like to show them off....

Welcome to the nuthouse. It is good to see that you went for the mature and intelligent choice of a slow and steady bike. Some young fools (like me) tend to pick the fastest thing we can get. The Blue one, of course.

    Nice color choice Ray

Hey Ray! You will not be sorry you chose the RST1000. What an awesome bike! I have owned 2 and have 24,000 miles on the saddles. You think you like it now.... just wait till you get it through break in and get to crank it on a bit. The red is such a head turner on the street too. Do be careful with it. I had 2 wrecks on my first one the 02. So far I have broken 11 bones in less than 1 year on Futura crashes. 2 different wrecks. The second a girl ran a red light in front of me and I totaled the bike. Thats why I have had 2. Give yourself some time to get use to it and try not to lean on your hands when you ride. This is key to comfort for distance riding on the Fut. I had to adjust and experiment with my posture and riding position a bit at first but after a while it was second nature and what a rush!

You obviously have good taste in bikes..... congrats!
