Just fitted mine today (cheers Gary!)
But i've found when the bolt is done up, and it is done up correctly, there is a 1.5mm gap between the shoulder of the bolt and the face of the sidestand.
This means the top of the stand should be made a fraction thicker.
Other than that a very easy fit and a very good finish.

I'm using the original bolt which is shouldered. The gap is at the head end.
Can't put a washer there because it'll cover over the hole for the sidestand switch!
Washer on the other end will make no difference due to the shoulder between the thread and the shank of the bolt.
Options are- thicker plate or take 1.5mm off the shoulder of the bolt.

Or do what i've done and pack the gap with silicon grease and leave well alone! The switch is functional and the stand works......

It doesn't entirely fix the cause of the problems - namely the small angle of the mounting bracket (20° or so).

Imo, only a US sidestand bracket (with longer sidestand, that extends out much further at a flat 45° angle) fixes this for good.

It sure is much better than the laughable Original EU-spec thingie though!

There are several options for improving the sidestand. Try doing a search both here and on the UK R.S. site.

Briefly you can use a Firestorm stand, some sort of GSX stand. A tilting bracket. A US spec Falco stand etc.... etc....

    cheers,

Thats what I did - I haven't regretted it. Despite the distance, AF1 came up trumps and shipped it the moment they had it. From ordering to dropping on my doorstep took 6 days

Same here. Much better but does make you choose.... cut away 3rd mounting point of stand or grind away small section of frame...

I cut my frame with a dremel and kept the 3 bolt fixing. Wasn't difficult and although the 2 bolt is strong, after having my mounting plate bent by ferry gorilla's with BIG f**k-off tie down straps I wasn't taking any chances

get a firestorm stand and switch off ebay

mine cost 15 quid including delivery

bolts straight on and plugs into wiring loom - you will have to swop over the mounting bracket btw...., is a straight swop

very easy - about 15 minute job in total, and works very well

Sounds ideal. When you say you have to swap over the mounting bracket, do you mean you have to swap it for the VTR one?

no, you take the aprilia mounting bracket and apply the firestorm stand to it - once you have one in your hand you will see what I mean

very easy, very successful mod I think - was the first thing I did to my falco
