Using Oil is this OK ?

My 2001 RSV (with 5000kms on the clock) has used between 300-400 ml of oil in 2000km. I understand the Mille engine uses a little but is this too much based on anyone elses experience ? I changed the oil at 3000kms (an extra oil service than the specs) and my bike used 300-400 mls up to current milage of 5000kms.

Is it true they use oil faster until a few more kilometres are put on them ?

It has included a track day in the 2000kms.

    Thanks

I've heard, but not experienced myself yet, that twins tend to eat a little more oil than 4s.

On a related issue, though, are you _sure_ that it used that much oil? With the wide variation in measurements hot versus cold or even versus warm, I would think that would be hard to tell...

I goofed the other day when I changed mine, and filled it up until the sight glass was about the halfway mark when the engine was _cold_. Sure enough, after I took it out for a short run, the oil (with hot engine) was over the "max" mark, so I had to drain some.

Manual states to check it with engine hot, but not running. I've also noticed that when the bike sits for a few days, the oil level does weird things.

Short answer - I really don't think that's enough to worry about.

Based on what mine does, I'd say it's fine.

Mine has 10,000 MILES on it...

My 2000 RSV drank oil when it was new. 1/2 quart every 600 miles. Made me nervous too. Mine tampered off as miles went on. I had my waterpump oil seal replaced and that helped. I have 7500 miles now and consumption has stopped. I don't even bother checking the oil that much anymore because it's always fine. My bike has had 100% synthetic from the get go. Still on the original clutch. Make sure to check your oil only after a long ride, stop the engine and check the sight tube immediately, don't wait or you will get a false reading.

    Thanks

Thanks will keep an eye on things, too be honest I hadn't
checked it with it being serviced recently and was surprised to see it was low. What a damn assed system I say, seems to leave quite a bit to chance or personal interpretation !

    Appreciate your comments
