Anybody use the Aprilia dual can set up?

I never hear any talk or see pictures of it installed. Is it louder than the single can set-up? The propoganda from Aprilia says 'race' only. Is the dual can system too loud for the street? the dyno charts in the 2002 Aprilia catalog show power gains everwhere. the single can set up is $599 USD and the Dual is $899 USD, both come with a chip.

I am getting my bike this week and it is easier to order stuff when you buy it, since you can roll it into the loan.

My knowledge of the subject is pretty much limited to what I've picked up on this forum but from what I've read 2 into 2 full systems along with de-restricting the airbox give power gains all over. The 2 into 2 exhaust is about the only way I've heard of to eliminate the mid-range flat spot. It makes the power band smooth throughout. No more big surge from 5-6k rpms. Just a STRONG steady pull throughout. Just my 2 cents.

Not really talking about 2 into 2, but rather the two can race slip on and chip that Aprilia sells. I know that they sell a 2 into 2, but it is like $1800 USD or something, right?

    From the site:

The racing silencer for the best results and optimum on-circuit performance of the RSV MILLE. Along with the single-cylinder version RSVTITANIUM,this original silencer has been developed by the technicians of the Racing Service Competition, the Aprilia team led by Haga in the World SBK 2002.

SPTITANIUM means great power and torque, while the bike is lighter thanks to the use of titanium and carbon.

It offers improved handling when approaching and coming out of bends, greater speed when changing direction and maximum tilting angle on bends. A sporty and aggressive character are guaran-teed by the design of the double titanium pipe and by the carbon support bracket.

Functionality and design are completed by the carbon heel guard. It may be fitted, with the dedicated EPROM, either on the RSV 2001/2002 or on the '99 and 2000 version.

The package is complete with the exclusive dedicated EPROM, the result of numerous tests both on the track and on the engine test bench to ensure optimum performance.

These results could not have been achieved without an eprom suited to the new characteristics of the engine.

Around here we call that the "shotgun" exhaust.

I have a shotgun full system on my Mille, and it is pretty quiet. It only gets loud around 9K rpms. It sounds better than the stock can, but it is not much louder.

If you are talking about the Aprilia RSC Ti slip-on when you say the "single can" set up, that is a really loud pipe. It has a kind of harsh, raspy sound and it is very loud. I had that on my Tuono for a while, and I liked it, but ended up changing for something with a lower tone.

I can't tell you about power gains from the shotgun slip-on, but the RSC Ti slip-on and chip only gave my bike very minor power gains. It gained about 1-2hp on top, and maybe 1-2 hp in the mid-range. I would be surprised if the shotgun slip-on was much better.

Yep, I figured out it was called the shotgun after reading posts all night . And I found a good posting in one of the other sections that explained what cans were louder etc. Just learning all the letters SP, Ti, RSV, RSC, PC, Evo, Rene, TIG, etc. etc.

And thanks, just what I needed to hear. (except for the power gain thing). I guess I will go with the shotgun/chip combo from Aprilia along with the airbox mod from Evo. for now., I think that will work OK for me. I could probably do better with a PC and stuff but there are no tuners or dynos (well one in a new Yamaha shop) around here, so I kind of needed a 'canned' solution.

    We all gotta start someplace!

Yeah, it can be overwhelming learning all the lingo at first.

I think you'll be fine with the shotgun slip-on, chip, and Evo airbox. I'd also suggest lowering the gearing a bit. You'll find many threads about gearing on the forum, but to summarize, stock gearing is 16/42, most people go with 16/44, and some go with 15/42 or 15/43.

All of that and you'll really enjoy the bike.

BTW, when are you getting the new bike?

I just finished the paperwork today, so I could get it home by the end of the week, (if I want) but since the cold is closing in I may just wait and get all the goodies installed first. It is gonna suck looking at it all winter (well a little!) Hopefully we will have a few more nice days so I can at least try it out.

Got shotgun, chip, airbox mod, Sargent seat, service manual, ZG sport-touring shield, and a 15T front sprocket, and a few other odds and ends. So I should be all set!

    THANKS!

Sounds like you've got everything that you need. I hope you can get some riding in before the snow hits. Enjoy the bike!!!

post pics of the shotgun on a tuono! I wanted to go with this system, but I needed to keep the passenger peg. I wasn't wild about the shotgun on a full-fairing bike, but I thought it would look great on a naked bike. I also didn't want to drop the cash, so I went with the arrow slip-on, and I'm actually really happy with looks and sound, but I might still go to the shotgun eventually. Post again about the pics and sound if you can, or e-mail me at jnlmcginnis@hotmail.com. I know you can get spacers for the footpeg-I had them in a superhawk, but you might have to get them custom made, but you might be able to keep the pass. peg. If you look through some of the posts, it seems like some of these guys are machinists-maybe they can help

Didn't mean to offend you-I just think the two cans add more when the whole full-fairing thing looks-wise is all about being sleek and uncluttered. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it looks bad, just that some other systems look "sportier". I guess I contradict myself, as you could say a "naked" bike is all about minimalism, but I like the clean, tucked away look on full-faired machines-I think one of the most gorgeous bikes ever is the Ducati 916. I used to be wild about underseat exhaust, but now that everyone's got one-even stock-I think it's best reserved for single-sided swingarm machines-but I digress. Just my personal preference, I like high, tucked in dual cans on a sport twin, and wicked "look-at-me" unconventional set-ups on nakeds-the Kawasaki Z-1000 looks great, too bad it's an inline 4!
