    cornering question.

    hi all,

came up to a corner today where i couldnt see the exit when going into the corner. wasnt going that fast 30-35mph.. counter steered round the corner and lent the bike a little but found myself going wide near to the white line. breaked a bit and then carried on.

just wondered if any of you with racing experience could tell me the best way to have done this i.e should i have pushed more on the bar and then leaned in e.t.c

looked like i was cornering on an r1

30-35mph is really slow for a race track corner, most artn much slower than 40mph ish in the uk.

but anyway, you prob froze up a bit, easy to do, i still do it all the time. Which meant you stoped the bike turning and focused where you didnt want to go. So even though you counter steered you prob pushed the bars back again... we've all been there wanting to turn knowing what to do, but just cant get brain to make arms/body do what you want.

Coz you were going so slow, and probably still slow for the corner you could grab the brake a bit, which got you into a position you felt more comfortable, next time unless your scraping the pegs just relax more and hold a neutral throttle, if you back off the throttle that can cause you to run wide too. All much easier said than done.

once your really confident (sometimes!)you'll just be able to relax when it all goes pear shaped, knowing what you have left in reserve and how you can get out of it. How often do you see a world class gp racer gointo a corner way to deep, yet still make it round?

anyway hope thats maybe helped a bit. Just takes time getting used to yoru bike

Dont concentrate on countersteering, let it come natural, the more u deck it ver the more it counter steer.

Just nean harder and power out of the corner

    thanks for the info m8,

i was on the cat and fiddle road.. dont know if you have ridden it or know of it. but i wasnt going at a fast speed never do over 50mph on it. but there are a few bends on it where you cant see the exit to the corner. and i think i freeze a bit and lose my bottle and end up going wide even at 30mph. i will practice a bit more and get used to going round the corners but you get a fear in the back of your mind that you will go over the edge. probs a mental block..

    cheers

yeah if you freak out and look where you don't want to go you'll end up there, that's how I crashed, it just takes some distraction, like a fkn big truck coming the other direction and that can stop your fun.
If you're running wide try a little rear brake to tighten up your line

Where you look is where you go, so better watch as much as you can where you are going to end up going, like the end of the curve, if you can't, well slow down a bit just in case.

one thing to add to rs250s stuff is a bike likes to be on throttle be it full or slight trailing throttle or on the brakes, inbetween they flop around like a wet fish. biggest thing is to relax.
