I was just wandering if anyone is losing the balance shafts on the heads when doing a race build up.
Are these there simply for a rider comfort issue, or does the engine tend to self destruct Harley Davidson style without them?

...d-a-m-n right.
Sorry for that. If memory serves the SBK RSVs were missing one of their twin balance shafts, but those were short-stroke SP motors with probably different balancing to a standard Rotax's.
sure, pull it out, i dare you![]()
(everyone else.....step back)
we asked the italian engineers back in 2001 about it, they almost passed out but then they were they designers of a street engine not a race engine.
Bill Himmelsback from Blackmans racing told me he pulled one out just to see.
he said it vibrated like a motherf^cker on the dyno and made no more power.
but hey, if you are going down to bike nite pull the balance shaft out and take the mufflers offyou might make some new friends.

Too bad. If I recall correctly, on the old Kwak ZX11 removing the balance shaft was worth somwhere close to 10 horses…Originally posted by clarkie49

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
the gsxr1000 will make more power without the balcance shaft as well, but then again you can run an inline 4 race motor without the oil scraper rings to make more power, not on a twin though.
