    my bike died today

I was at a red light in neutral hands off all the controls and it just died? It wouldn't start after that.. I pushed it off the side of the road and checked some fuses under the seat and they look good.. as I was standing there wondering what I was going to do I saw that I happend to be across the street from a small mechanic shop for bikes, so I pushed it over there and expained to them what happend and me and a tech did some basic checks and it has spark, has gas in the tank, seems to have compression, the battery went dead pretty quick trying to turn it over but they had a charger, anyway I can't figure this out? could there possible be no fuel pressure? can a fuel pump go out just like that? is there a fuse somewhere I don't know about? any ideas would be great I am going to open her up tomorrow morning and kinda need a direction to go..

    Thanks,
    Josh

In that case I'd check if you get voltage to your fuel pump. If you do, your pump'd prolly had it. If there's no voltage, time to get the wiring diagram out.

can someone tell me what the little black box under the seat, right behind the battery is? it looks like the fuel pump wires go to it? i took it off to look at it and it is rattling? like there is something broke inside it?

thanks sensei, i opened it up and figured thats what it was, however thats not the problem.. I got the fuel pump out of the tank and now I need to know how to test it.. I plugged it in to the bike while out of the tank and there is nothing coming from it, its not trying to prussurize anything during key turn on.. is there a way to test it out of the bike? I want to make sure its the pump and not the wiring to the pump.. I dont have a meter to test the wires the pump connects to..

    thanks,
    Josh

Did you check the dreaded sidestand saftey switch?
When mine went out the samething happened to me. This is a common problem with our bike, in fact AFI sells a bypass for that very problem. Do a search on this issue, you can also cut the wire and bypass the saftey switch all together. But then you will always have to remeber to put your kiskstand.

Mine did the same thing when the second ignition fuse popped. It's in the fuse box on the right of the dashboard, at least on the older bikes mine is a -99.

Everything but the fuel pump worked and it took a wile before I took notice of the fuse but when I did I saw it was broken. Changed the fuse and the bike started again.

Fuel pump relay maybe? Mate has similar problem, seems to occur when bike has warmed up, I've tried everything I can think of up to now so will be intrigued to what you find, I'm looking at replacing the relay next and see what happens....seems to me that whatever I do it runs fine for a while then starts playing up again, I'm wondering if something is breaking down when hot, so relay next on list

    Check the kill switch

Also...make sure your hoses aren't squished/crimped under the tank

never thought to check the kill switch, i'll have to open that up when i get off work.. will the kill switch kill just the fuel pump? (or is that how it kills the bike?)

the relays under the tail were swapped and didn't do anything.. with the pump out of the tank plugged in I can here the relays click but nothing with the acctual pump..

I have a new pump on the way via Motocorsa.. $250 bones with a new seal.. so i hope i can find something real easy wrong and not need to mess with a new pump or pay for it..

I had similar problem with my bike, it just died when I got to a stop sign at the top of a hill. The previous owner had a battery that was just too small. I replaced the battery and the starter relay with the yamaha one and haven't had any problems since then.
