    Importance of SLIDERS!!!

You guys won’t believe this shieeet.........

I was minding my own damn business, going to meet my dad for a Sunday morning ride today (he’s got a new SV650). I came down a local (empty) two lane road with one red light about 1/2 mile away at the next intersection. I was actually booking right along (as usual).....with little wheelies in first and second as I was leaving the last stop sign. I was certainly NOT being a slouch at the throttle....and there was no one else around (or so I thought). As I’m slowing down for this next signal while I was in the right lane, just slightly left of center (where I was from the beginning to avoid the oil spots), all of a sudden, this ARSHOLE comes outa nowhere and wants MY LANE....evidently to make a right turn as I later surmised. Just before I came to a complete stop, this dude (in a late model MBZ...something like a CLK-500) comes right up to my butt and TAGS ME!!! Pushed me THREE FEET INTO the intersection!!!

I turned around to see who the hell this was (coulda been a “buddy” who “overtapped”?) and this turd FLIPS ME OFF....then drives around my left side, just missing me AGAIN....and then FLOORS it through the intersection....which was STILL RED!!! As soon as I got the GREEN (I just COULD NOT BELIEVE this was happening to ME!), I chased this fooker wheeling all the way up to within about 5 car lengths of him....all he musta seen was the underside of my bike getting bigger and bigger in his rear view. As soon as I get close, this ASS INSTANTLY “Flips A Bitch” RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!! Now he’s going THE WRONG WAY.....so I U-turn around the center concrete median and chase him while I’m on the CORRECT side of the street. I easily caught up to him where he FAB’s AGAIN (NOW he’s going the right way!) So, I make another U-turn around the center island, going the correct direction and catch him again.

This FOOKER now turns into the wrong side of the street AGAIN (thank GOD there was no traffic on a Sunday morning).....and starts doing BURNOUT DOUGHNUTS to throw me off as to which direction he’s gonna go. This DICK thinks he’s a driver for FAST & FURIOUS or something.....and he’s got a girl in the car with him....whose face is as white as a sheet!!!!

After about THREE of these “spinning moves”, I got caught (trying to be on the legal side of the road) coming too close to one of the center islands at a break between them. This ASS then makes TWO MORE doughnuts and almost tags me again as I was getting close to the beginning of the next island. I stopped just INCHES from the curb with my wheel fully cocked to the right and....you guessed it....DROPPED MY BIKE!!! This TURD then escapes at FULL THROTTLE on the WRONG SIDE of the street AGAIN....all the way to the next damn signal...1/4 mile away!!!!

I just could NOT BELIEVE this shieeet! With YEARS of riding under my belt, I have NEVER seen this kind of irresponsible action before!!! Well, with so much adrenaline flowing, I literally threw my bike up off me and tried to start it....no go....bike just kept saying “failed start”.....for about the next looooong minute as I watched this ASS speed off. There must be a “timer” in the Aprilia ECU that once tripped by the tip-over-sensor, prevents the bike from starting for some pre-determined length of time. Oh well, bike finally starts, this ASS is loooong gone, and I FINALLY make it over to my dads house.

Check out my bike and ONLY the right Lockhart slider and Sato peg were scratched.....my C/F pipe escaped damage COMPLETELY, as well as the radiator, tank and ALL other major components (except the right side mirror). Evidently, he only hit my tire when he bumped me....and NOT my cans......UNFOOKINGBELIEVEABLE !!!!!!!

Soooo, if it wasn’t for the Satos, my slick 63mm C/F right side can woulda been TOAST.....and the same exact thing can be said for those Lockhart sliders. Since the sliders are about 1-1/2 times the length of the stock white Aprilia POS’s, it saved the radiator, tank, bar ends (go figure....oh, I was under there somewhere too), and everything else but the right side mirror (NBD there). In all the excitement, never got his plate number either.......

Well, I guess I’ll be ordering some more Lockhart stuff (they’re Honda 929 sliders) and a new mirror (any consensus on better ones yet???) Check it out.....and DO NOT trust those stock white Aprilia sliders to do shieeet!

In hind sight, I had soooo much adrenaline pumping that I don’t know what I would done IF I caught that guy.....he either woulda run over me....or we’d both be in jail by now.....but I woulda DEFINITELY fooked up his car in the process (possibly my bike and ME too). So, I guess that little ECU “time out”, was all of that.....

    whoa

that's crazy rustie. glad you're okay. probably best you didn't catch the guy but it would have been nice to get his plate #.

hey, i see from your pictures that you have the front and swingarm sliders on your tuono. which pieces are those. i remember you mentioned that something had to machined to get the front slider to fit. and are the rear ones also swingarm spools?

    Rustie6,

    Glad to hear you're OK.

Yup, there is a timer on the tip over sensor, same happened to me when I dropped it and wanted to get away from laughing crowd ASAP...

Human stupidity never fails to surprise me... what can I say... I'm speechless

One note on scratched sliders/rearsets: A Proudly displayed scratched Tuono R looks a lot of cred, IMO, and what conversation piece, too... don't fix it! On the other hand, a scratched GSXR looks crap! :rollin:

    Re: whoa

The problem was that you lost your senses. You could've been seriously injured chasing the guy or killed if you actually caught him. What you did was stupid--plain and simple.

I would have done exactly the same thing.

    Re: whoa

Cost of fixing sliders?...maybe couple hundred
    Cost of fixing rearsets?.........around $450

    Coming out of it unhurt?.........PRICELESS!

That A$$HOLE was on something! Be glad you didn't catch him, no telling what could have happened. That's when you get the cell phone and dial 911.

    Re: whoa

I had a similar experience last year on my Mille. Only I didn't get hit from behind, he tried to ram me into a cement divider. I was able to out brake him and got behind him. At first, I thought he just didn't see me and accidently changed lanes right into me. But then, he looked back at me and fliped me off. Then he sped off, I chased him down and when I had caught up to him he locked up the brakes in an attempt to make me rearend him. I was ready for that trick and outbraked him again. I got his plate and made a u-turn and went the other direction. He knew I had his plate and turned around to chase me. I lost me with ease, Ford Explorers just don't fair well in chasing down Milles. I called the cops and he was arrested for reckless driving and assault with a deadly weapon. I never found out why he wanted to hurt or kill me. The Police advised me that he probably just hated motorcycles and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Oh yeah, the guy was 72 years old and got away with a suspended license and probation. No time served. The system really works, yeah right!

    Crazy!

Thats a crazy story and I think a valuable lesson to all of us. The public in general are crazy. Your experience proves it. I would have done the same thing as you. I wouldn't beat up on yourself too much about the license plate. Chances are it was a stolen car. Nobody would act like that in a vehicle where they could be traced. I am glad your OK for one and glad it wasn't one of the rest of us here on the forum for two. Cheers.
btw, if you got a look at his face you may get to recongnize him again somewhere. But be careful cause someone who would act like that probably has an advanced blackbelt or something...but maybe you do too! best

    Could have been worse

There was a story here in San Jose late last week about something similar. A guy in a truck cut off a guy on a Harley. The Harley splits lanes at the next stop light and has words with him. At the light change the Harley pulls into a coffee shop parking lot. I'm sure whether that was his destination or if the guys decided to do that. Anyway, as the guy's getting off his bike the truck nails him, sends him over the bike and splits. The biker is paralyzed now. They got a good description of the guy and the truck, so I hope they get the a-hole.

    sliders

You say those frame sliders are for a 929?? They bolt right up huh? I'd like some longer than the stock ones for my Tuono. I use em as highway pegs believe it or not. But longer would be better for sure.
