    Eprom's

I recently purchased a used ECU, and I took the cover off to see what type of Eprom was in it and it says "A 63", im assuming that is a stock one, but not sure. In my old ECU it has a RSV Titanium Eprom, how does one change them without breaking them? Any enlightenment on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I've decided to swap out ECU's to hopefully solve my mysterious EFI problem, hopefully it works.

    Thanks

It is very easy to break pins removing the chip. There are special tools for removing them but if you don't have one you need to very carefully pry a little at a time at each end to gradually ease it up and out of the circuit board. You need to make sure that what ever you pry with does not bear on sensitive parts of the chip or circuit board. The aprilia RSV Ti chip and all other aprilia kit chips have a protection board under the chip that stays with the chip. Also there is a notch in one end of the chip. Take note of this before you remove it and be sure to put the other one in the same way.

Not sure which specific model the A 63 chip is for but I would first just leave the chips alone and switch the ECU and see if that stops the problem.

    Titanium Evo

as usual KZ allways has excellent advise.. i don't think it was mentioned, but the A chip is a stock chip and the Titanium Evo is the high performance Aprilia Eprom made to go with the Evo exhast can. the Evo chip has richer fuel mapping for the better flowing exhaust. i have been using the chip for a while now and don't have any major complaints. it definately ran better than the stock chip.

    As per KZmille's advise.

Gently pry the chip from the socket 1mm at a time from each end with a thin screw driver. The indent in one end of the chip marks Pin 1, therefore the orientation of the original and the replacement chips should be with Pin 1 in the same place.

When Handling Integrated Circuits (IC's) static electricity, even at levels that humans cannot feel, can irrepairably damage the IC. Ensure that all surfaces and items that will come into contact with the IC are adequately grounded to ensure no static electricity will discharge into the IC.

Oh, and don't make the mistake that some trainees make, and try to pry the shoe off of the board with the IC still seated.

KZ I amazed thier is something you not sure of on a mille
I believe the A63 was the original chip in the UK/european bike. Mine an 99 model and it certainly had a A63 chip, which I believe when the b/g wire is cut activates all sort of goodies.

The A63 EPROM is the later one fitted to the 98-2000 UK models (and may be Europe) I know because my 99 model had a previous EPROM version that was shite - Aprilia UK changed it for the A63.
