    RS Track bike build

Well since Gilad got things started with his RS I thought I'd put mine up too, still in progress but soon she will be on the track. I will try to keep the posts up. Willow Springs has a great kart track to play on. Perfect for bikes up to 125cc. I found a 2001 RS50 was in pretty good shape on the craigslist here in L.A. A few little things came up like broken and crappy rewelded engine cradle ,but thanks to AF1 I have been able to pick-up spares pretty easy. First job was to strip down and replace anything needed and find out what had to be orderd, parts are hard to come by in the states. AirTech bodywork made me a nice race nose and tail,I was still able to use the side panels and chin fairing. Removed all the wires not needed. Race Bridgestones 90x110. New top clamp,clamp-on bars quick turn throttle. Engine had already been tuned up to 75cc but still had the stock carb so I shipped out the Keihen 28mm. Removed the starter and oil pump fabricated some block-off plates (THOSE PLUGS NEVER WORK) Replaced the fork springs and oil for my large self (205lbs without gear) Went with a new i-shock from a KDX110 so that I can keep the front end at the stock hight and lift the rear end a little, again so my size does not bottom out the suspension. So thats where I'm at now. Getting ready to paint the bodywork and put it all back together hope I will have a track report soon. Name: HPIM1377.JPG

WOW man. thats looks like a very nice project,
I love the work you did on the bike, nice fairing.

how much the tail fairing cost ?
Do you think I can make it fit on my 96 RS ?

This rear shock looks good, is it better then the RS50 aftermarket ones ?

Thanks Gilad. Yes with some work you could make it fit but it would not be a simple bolt on. I have seen your model over here that has had the bodywork swaped out to later model stuff. Contact AirTech streamlining they are here in socal. They make great parts and are super fast. They do make early model stuff for the 125 and AF1s that may be easier to fit. I have even seen mito bodywork on one before pretty cool looking. Are you in the UK ,if so you guys have more options for aftermarket parts there. AirTech prices are great, but I dont know what shipping would be to you.

As far as the rear shock goes I really dont know how well it will perform until I have the bike together. They run I-SHOCKs on small displacment dirt bikes here and are very easy to get and service. The cost is far less than getting one from overseas. They are very strong and have a thicker shaft, adjustible preload and rebound control, lots of spring rate options and only $200.00. As soon as I get her on the track I will post a report on the performance.

quick see of the motor and carb. As you can see I will have to play with the clutch cable stop as the carb is so much bigger and the float bowl is some what in the way. I hope I can just mill off the hose holder and run the cable just under the carb.Name: HPIM1703.JPG

Do you have a link for me ?
Do you have some photos of the tail fairing ?

by the way , I live in Israel, but I have many friends in europe that can transfer the parts to me.

About the carb, did u tried to fit the clutch cable ?
I think u can move the carb a littel, to make the cable fit.

    rear sets

What are you going to do about rear sets? I got mine from TCM but it took a while and now I don't think they are available at all. Nice project. I'm impressed. I get the impression that there is less race stuff available from AF1 than a year ago. I've been doing a number of track days with my RS50 and had concentrated on upgrading suspension and controls before doing anything with the motor. Now that I think I'm ready for more power, it seems like there's less stuff available from AF1. They (especially Micah) were real helpful last year. Where are you going to get your exhaust?

Thanks Laverda, Your soo right, there are alot less parts available now. I also tried TCM with no luck,I dont think they are in buiss. anymore...oh well. So for the time being I am stuck with stock. I have a full carbon Arrow kit that came on the bike that I was happy to find needed only a good cleaning to remove some rust and oil. I have restored lots of cars and bikes in the past and this so far has been a fun little project I just cant wait to get it on the track. I will try to update soon.
