    Limited dealer support

I just purchased a SXV for delivery today and after having a talk with the salesperson, I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to get very good support from the service department.

Basically, when I asked about de-restriction, the answer was "They are reluctant to do so because there will be warranty issues with doing so".

Unfortunately, there are no other dealers to choose from where I live. The next nearest dealer from here is a 3-4 hour plane ride...

So, while I can easily handle maintenance and repairs, knowing what to do for preventive maintenance has me concerned.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there were other sources of bulletins besides "Slorider.com/Aprilia"? It's not that I don't find the site valuable, I just like to keep redundant safeties, so to speak :)

I don`t envy you, You need to talk to the service department personal, and see if he will print them out for you, tell him that you plan on maintaining the bike yourself, he will proably be more than happy to do this for you, I`am sure once the bike leaves the shop, they would prefer not to see it again.

Look thru this forum, there is some good info here.

    Where are you?

Just curious where are you located? You're going to need to get the physical derestriction instructions (i.e. remove exaust restriction, throttle stop etc.) and you're going to need your dealer for the Axoine update tool (and I/F cable). It also helps if they know what they're doing. You're going to want to review bulletins etc.

This forum and some of the members have great knowledge and information on their own sites. Great resource.

I'm in Hawaii. The dealer says they can take care of the de-restriction but I have my doubts about whether or not it'll be done correctly or with the latest map.

Of course, I could just be paranoid. I'm just kind of worried that they'd mention the warranty as a reason not to do it. Also, from what I've seen, this is prolly the third bike in the state sold so again, their experience with this particular bike has me worried.

I will be talking with them again when the bike arrives and go over the SB's and de-restriction in detail but if I don't feel good about it, I'll truck the bike to my dad's and take care of these myself.

If it does come to that, I'll have to rely on the info here and from the links within. I just want to make sure I don't miss anything doing so :)

...'cause otherwise, I'll be posting here with a lot of questions about why some component decided to separate itself from the rest of the bike... :)

If you understand from the get-go that these bikes need TLC, you will be OK, and it seems to me that you do understand this. Be vigilant but do enjoy your new ride.

They probably mention warranty because de-restriction takes you from a 2 year warranty to a 90 day warranty. Still more warranty than you get with any MX bike.

My bike came in so I went to check it out at the dealer. While I was there I asked if the SB's were completed.

In all honesty, I wasn't expecting a yes or no since the dealer sells like, 5 or 6 different brands. What threw me for a curve though, was "What Service Bulletins?"...

    ...yikes...

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I haven't seen too many vehicles produced that didn't have even one bulletin for it. Considering the "reputation" this bike has, I'd have thought there would at least be a passing knowledge of the existence of the bulletins.

    I feel a tear-down inspection coming soon, I don't know why... :)

There are several posts that list all the bulletins. Print them off and take them to the dealer. Do not pick up the bike until they have been done.

surprisingly enough, I got the same, "what bulletins" from the dealer that has my bike now. that's why I'm picking it up and bringing it elsewhere.

I stongly recommend having the dealer retorque the stator bolts. Then get it home and retorque them yourself. Then check them after every couple hundred miles. Mine backed out after the bulletin was performed.

Is this an isolated problem where they get loose again and again?
    Cause? Vibration?

Not sure how isolated it is. I can only speak from my experience. As far as cause, your guess is as good as mine. Vibratiion would be a possibility.
