    Tuono Oil Change Pictorial

I recently did the 600 mile service on my Tuono and I thought I would document it as there is very little about the procedure online. I may be off with the allen key sizes, but it should be pretty accurate...

My contribution to the site. Enjoy!

I did the 600 mile service on my '07 Tuono today. The main item was an oil change. There are no procedures for this on the web, so I figured that I'd do one. Here goes...

Disclaimer: Workring on your bike can be dangerous. Proceed at your own risk. Information below is provided for entertainment value only. etc. etc.

Start with an '07 Aprilia Tuono

This is the area that we will be concentrating on

You will need 4 quarts of synthetic oil 10W50 or 15W50, a cartridge filter, and a couple of o-rings

Put the side panel in the service position by removing the 4mm allen screw, loosening the pivot 4mm allen and using a 12mm wrench to loosen the extension bar

Remove the lower fairing. One 4mm allen screw on each side and one front and center

Here are the items we will be addressing.

    1. Remove the oil tank drain bolt using a 10mm socket (Inspect/replace crush washer)

    2. Cut the factory clamp where the line goes to the oil tank screen (Replace with a hose clamp)

    3. Use a 27mm socket to remove the oil pump screen. Clean with brake cleaner. (Inspect O-Ring)

    4. Remove the oil filter drain plug using a 7mm allen socket
    5. Remove the two 6mm allen screws holding the filter cover (Inspect O-ring)

Remove the filter and inspect the housing

    Reassemble everything.

Fill with 3.25 quarts, no more, no less. Then start bike and let idle for 1 minute. Top off oil tank, using a total of roughly 3.75 quarts.

Put it back together and go for a test ride of 5 to 10 miles. Shut off bike, wait 1 minute and recheck oil level. Adjust if needed.

    All done

If he was that detail oriented he wouldn't leave his tools and fairing hardware strewn about the garage floor!

As far as the oil screen, it is an "every other" item. You can remove it from the engine side and unscrew it from the oil tank without having to cut the factory clamp.

Nice garage btw. I love the floor and have always thought about painting mine like that.
For my money it doesn't get any better than when he sings, "When a man loves a woman". I celebrate his entire catalog.

Thanks for the write up. I have changed mine once but didnt remove the front fairing or clean the screen. I was going to do it next time , I just have to find a 27mm socket.

Thanks guys, I'm happy you guys find it useful. I wish I documented the charcoal cannister removal

Here is a my license plate modification that I did. Easy to duplicate.

Tee Dub - I'll try to be beater in the future. I tend to group my tools in the spot I'm working on them. The floor paint kicks ass; it's very easy to clean and I do alot of messy work on my race car and other toys...

Excellent, but you didn't show the removal of the oil filter drain bolt to the lower right of the filter cover. You had an arrow pointing to it. There's quite a bit of oil behind that bolt and it really ought to be drained. Also, it's less obstructed on your Tuono than it is on my Futura. Maybe you did it and forgot to include a picture.

Anyway, thanks for posting this. Really shows where everything is. Wish I'd had it when I did my first change...got by on the old Falco rundown.

OK, I see it now. I wish you had included a picture as that is the toughest part of the change. How did you keep oil off the exhaust collector when it drained out. I use aluminum foil to catch the draining oil.

I just tucked the hose back into the rear set and the oil dropped straight down. No issues with the exhaust for me. Bike was on the side stand, not a center stand FWIW.

Maybe I'll do an edit and add a picture with the wrench on that bolt. I'll try to do that tonight.

    Thumbs up

Holeshot, great job on the documentation, much appreciated! While you are re-editting the pictures could you add the torque specs in there? That was the toughest part of the change for me. Looking them all up on the site or where ever I could find them took me almost twice as long. If you don't have them I would be happy to look them up again. (should have wrote them down somewhere)

Admins: maybe we could make this a sticky or add to your tech tips?

Oh, I see. I forgot about the center stand. That makes sense.
