Im doing mine every 800 to 1000 miles. If the guts measure good at the end of the season, I will wait even longer.
Hello guys...I've got a small problem. Yesterday managed to put togheter my sxv for the first time since i bought it last october. New oil, new iridium spark plug, new pipercross air filter, new gearbox oil, new starter. OLD GAS that it remained from previous owner. So last night after seeing it all togheter i decided i should just play little with the starting button. And surprise...the beast started right away. I mean litterally i bearly touched the starting button and it started. I was so surprised and happy. Took it for a spin...checked engine oil and everything was fine
But today....the bad surprise came...it doesn't start. A lot of backfire, and failed starts
What could have happend overnight?
mine had a hard time starting today after starting right away for the past three weeks, just opened the throttle a little more from where the cold start holds it and she fired up, lots of back fire prior to opening throttel... going to check the plugs other than that I'm going to order a kwest cable and check the TPS thinking that has something to do with it... would also like to load the Alice racing map in her. would check battery as well if its down alittle will have a hard time starting.... as its trying to power alot at once.

So i push-started it....took it for a ride....stalled the engine. It started right back only with a lot of throttle. Stopped...left it off for 20 minutes...couldn't start it again. I pulled the old gas, i tried to start it from a car battery nothing. I pulled the plugs, they were wet. I replaced them with the old non-iridium, still no go. Only a lot of backfire. Besides bad mapping could it be anything else? Sprag clutch or something like that?
my friend gave me his bike to fix, he said he was on the highway when oil started pissing out. loaded on his truck and brought it right over. from what i can tell feels like the motor is froze. my first time ever working on a aprilia. i read a little up on the bike. drained all the oil out of the air box and the daring the oil from the motor thinking he over filled it to check to see how much oil was in the motor, about 1cup of oil drained out. tried starting the bike and nothing won't turn over, tried push starting nothing, rear wheel locks up even with the clutch pulled in. has anyone had these exact problems and if so where do i start, i have lots of experience working on bikes just not the model.
I would pull the clutch cover to see whats wrong. If its locking up with the clutch pulled, thats not good (Clutch is right side)
I'm about to pull both clutch and stator covers off cause if the clutch is seized that still doesn't explain why all the oil went into the air box.
Drain and measure the gearbox oil. A bad seal will xfer engine oil to gearbox. Once gearbox fills, next stop is the airbox.
seized motor fellas. iv gotten the motor dropped from the bike i need to go buy a air tank so i can use my air tools. iv found a few pieces of shaved bearings so I'm hoping its a rod bearing and not a journal bearing. i would pay someone to rebuild it for me at a good price cause i really don't have the time i would like to sit and rebuild this thing i guess it will be a slow process. all tips and advice are welcome please.

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I'm having with an 08 sxv 550, I just bought the bike second hand, the previous owner said it had be de-restricted by the dealer when he purchased it. He said that it needed to be re-sealed so I got it for a cheap price, now when I drained the oil from both sides, the engine side came out clean, and the clutch side only had barley like a thimble full of clean water in it (not coolant) , so I did and oil change and flush, and tried to start the bike, it starts and idles fine, but as soon as the bike gets around 4300-4500rpm it sputters and just dies , very abrupt almost as if you hit the kill switch, the bike gets VERY hot quickly like almost instantly after starting. This led me to believe it was leaning out, I pulled the plugs and they look the exact opposite like it is running rich. So in a nutshell I'm wondering if anyone knows a solution to this problem because the bike will stay running as long as its at an idle, as soon as it reaches 4300-4500 it stalls, and getting to those rpms it seems rough. Any answers would be greatly appreciated, this bike is quite a tempermental machine it seems. Thanks in advance!
Does the oil come out with water in it if you drop it again? If so I would get the engine resealed before any expensive damage is done (if it isn't already).
Regarding the running of the bike, you really need to make sure the TPS is set properly and that the correct map is installed. This either means you need to get it to one of the experts on your side of the pond (although they are still a long way from you) Allen Noland or amauri (both members of this forum - who will also re-seal your engine), or buy the XVtuner software/cable from KWest (another member of this forum) so you can set your TPS and load the map yourself (computer required of course). It's normal for these bikes to get very hot very quick, and pretty normal for black plugs. They can be temperamental bikes, but once they're set up right and maintained correctly, you should have many hours of trouble free use.
Also, search the forum - you can pretty much guarantee someone else has had a similar problem to you before, so you might find the answers right here.
