Hey. Stop stealing thoughts right out of my head.
I decided that the Zane 750's have one fundemental issue. Take a motor that was originally 500cc and 45hp and pump it up to 90hp. They are screaming bikes but...........
they sure aren't an SF2!!!!
If you want a Zane bike do yourself a favor and buy The Original - buy a Monty.

One of the main issues with the Zane is the cooling system. I am not sure exactlly what occurs. I think internally it breaks down to the point of clogging all the passages and destroys the motor.
BUY A MONTY????
Try finding a Monty!

actually the zane era bikes are quite reliable. They did have typical italian electrical systems (particularly the battery cables being too small a gauge) which led to a reputation of hard starting. Once the cables are replaced problems seem very limietd.
Other misinformation is in regard to oiling in the 750 formula series. This only occurred if the bikes were reved all the way up to the 14k limit repeatedly and poorly maintained. The factory introduced a revised crank at the end but sadly the company was struggling for cash and had to close down.
For those of you who are considering the zane era bikes, I would wholeheartedly endorse them..I have several and they are beautiful, rare and handle better than anything outside of a 250.

FYI - The Benilli motor is actually the triple that was developed for the long promised but never deliverd zane laverda factory 3 cylinder motorcycle.
Oh yeah. I do remember a bit of a starting problem with mine.
