Has anyone tried one on a 550 SXV? If so, what can you tell us about it?
And where did you find it?
Thanks,

I have been running the 43 tooth sprocket from Talon Engineering in the UK.Originally Posted by tomroche
For all intents and purposes, I love the higher gearing. I will have it on the track this coming weekend and will report further.
In short, the bike has all the power to use the 43 tooth sprocket. 1st gear is usable and 3rd and 4th pull harder with much better speed.
Irie did not like the higher gears and felt the bike was more fun to ride with stock gearing.
So you have differing opinions. I personally do not like to flog the motor in the RPM range where it has nothing left to give. Hopefully on the track this coming weekend I will be able to pull 3rd with out revving the shit out of it on a high speed sweeper.

Recreationally we (+wife) run 46 on the road because we have a lot of single track roads near us and we're doing 50-80 max before the next tight corner is about to try and kill us!Originally Posted by waxxer
But on the track in 2007 I'll be running combinations of 15t and 16t front with 39t to 43t rear which will give me any choice of gearing from about 116mph to 135 mph without messing with the chain.
After the engine has been breathed on I reckon on about 77(ish) bhp but still I don't think it'll pull more than 135!

can someone post some examples of gearing to use for.. :
a ) standard - stock
b ) track
c ) to gain speed
d ) to gain accelleration and less speed
thanx

I am using a 38 tooth rear from Sprocket Specialists, obtained through my Aprilia dealer. It requires some care when starting out, but it is well worth the effort. The "frantic" nature of the bike is calmed down, and the feel is closer to a stock-geared Ducati superbike ( I had a 996). Speed builds very quickly, and I think it is going to be a better track-day setup than the 46 tooth piece. I have a track day coming up this Saturday and I have done a track day with the 46 tooth sprocket, so I will report on the experience. The 43 tooth may well be the best compromise for street use.Originally Posted by tomroche
I tried a 44 for general street use. The bike would still wheelie nicely but is much less 'frantic'.
I went back to a 46 because I don't use it much on main roads.
You have to careful with smaller sprockets because the chain slider wears a lot faster.

Irie pretty much summed it all up. Withh the 43 tooth I do not have to shift in 15 feet of distance--first gear that is.Originally Posted by SbikeMotard
A 38 tooth sprocket must feel like a motogp bike. Once you get it rolling and your speeds are absolutly silly, it must be a riot. Then again you are not riding on a cart track, you are on a road race course.
The problem is we cannot--or are having a hard time around normalizing the ride area and experience. FOr road work, I would go with a 43 rear and stock front. I have some seriously tight twisties roads that are known for eating bikes and fast cars. My favorite on the SXV calls for a 50 plus MPH entry into a super steep right that goes off camber and climbs a 10% plus grade. This corner is full of divots left by bikes and cars. The 43 tooth is absolutley PERFECT and I can touch my right footpeg to the ground.
This bike should be taken away from me!!![]()

i'd like to try it...
mybe i'll do.. sometimes when i ride with SS 600s or 1000s bikes i need more speed on the straights....
but our it's a motard, so....
and i don't want to lose the high accelleration it's ot now
thanx for the infos Waxxer !!
can i see a pic of the 43 rear sprocket?
thanx
