Some thing like the 1125 CR Buells have, but flatter provile. I have a black T4 and as I ride it one up 99% of the time would like to be able to put hard back over rear seat. I think it would realy set of the look of the bike , and also it would allow for a similar look to the RSV4 as the hump could be still exsposed and it could have a flat profile (like rear seat) or have the wings like the RSV4 tail section if that's the look your looking for. Then if you want to go 2 up some where just put on rear pegs remove the rear cover from seat and away you go. Does any one no of any thing like that available ? It would give a simaler look to the RSV4 but without having to do convertion would be cheaper and when rear seat is needed its sitting there under cover and would be much more comfortable than RSV4 passenger seat. what are your thoughts on this if any Lol.:)

Morning All,

Been reading a fair few posts over this last couple of weeks and have decided to take the plunge this morning and stick my head above the parapet to say hi.....So.....Hi :)

Seems a very knowledgable bunch on here which is always good when buying a little Italian exotica.

Ive been considering another naked bike for a while now since i've really got back in to my track riding as i fancy one for the street and occasional euro trips we do to the ring etc

Current stable is my track based R1 5pw (2002 first injection model but similar to the 4xv) and also a KTM RC8R twin spark running an akra, it makes babies cry from over a mile away and sounds incredible, best twin bar none IMO and thats up against any termi running Ducati ive owned.

Previous bikes include a few Ducati's (848, 1098s SF and S2r monster), another RC8 (standard 09) and a 2010 Blade....oh and a 4xv R1 which i tracked.

So what brings me here? Well im curious :)

At first i must admit, when i first saw the Tuono i didnt care much for the styling, I think its the headlights and was always hoping somebody would do a headlight mod but to be honest theyve grown on me although could be slightly better but i can live with that.

Since seeing the RSV4 tail mod i think the bike really sits well, i was never a fan of the mirrors either but from what ive read most seem to go the CRG arrow route as per a lot of SF owners so thats good to read and since its Italian it means some of my more favoured Rizoma stuff can be added without looking out of place ;)

All in all the more i look at them the better they start to look.

So, as usual i have a few noob questions whcih i may already know answers to some but just need clarifcation.

The dreaded seat e.g - plank of wood & pegs

Are most just straight swapping it out for the gel seat Aprilia do? I see corbin & Sargent dont offer a solution which suprises me and ive gone the re-upholstered route in the past but i prefer oem if poss. Doe's it actually give better comfort over distance? What about grip levels? Its a fine line between not sliding forward and then not being able to slide your arse sideways when hanging off a little.

Im also pretty tall at 6ft 3" and i know im yet to ride the bike but when i sat on it last week it felt 'ok' but my knees felt very bent and similar to my rearsets on the track bike, ok its not the end of the world but are any of you pretty tall and what have you done to help this?

I've seen some simple 1"down pegs on a site somewhere (could be AF1) but is it really just better getting some rearsets? Obviously i know this is basically the RSv4 all be it apparently more comfortable but i reckon id need to sort the knee bend out a touch so experience from you guys would help. Ill probably look like a gorilla riding a roller skate but who cares :)

Touring:

Ok i know a Multistrada would be better but not in the twisty stuff so has anybody actually done some miles on the Tuono? for example its 500+miles to the Nordschleife from my door step (give or take) and we tend to get up early and hammer it there in a day no dramas:)

Obviously theres petrol stops in between which from what i gather i'd probably be looking at what? 90 miles to a tank? Does a remap help this or is it just what it is? Its no major drama as i get bored on the motorways anyway but 100miles would be nice at least on the motorways, in the twisties i dont care if i only get 50 to be frank ;)

What about luggage? Ive been using my Kreiga stuff for a few years but being honest i was about to start in to the ventura rack as when we get somewhere id rather just get the pack off quick, take the rack off and then im back in 'normal' riding mode.

Model years:

from my understanding theres no difference? Or had there been some recalls and as such newer bikes come fitted with new parts from the factory?

I'm looking at a new pre reg APRC models (2012) for about £9995 or a 2nd hand 2011 APRC with circa 3300miles for nearer £8k. Theyre both black as i believe theyre the faster ones ;) Not sure if theyre the same black though, Ive seen the 2nd hand one and it looks duller, almost matt looking but some of your bikes seem gloss black?

Im not a doom monger or a greif junkie so i dont get too hung up on other owners bike problems but the forum seems to be a wash with them recently, lots of which point towards things id of thought would be recalls or definite dealer fixes.

Am i risking it buying a 2 year old 2011 with the 3000+ miles? It'll be out of warranty and as ive never owner an ape im not sure how they handle out of warranty work for various things.

Finally exhausts & tuning (my favourite part)

So, in a nutshell all RSV4 pipes fit, correct?

I must say initially i was thinking to simply go for Austin racing but there seems to be loads of really nice looking pipes, the SC project is nice, as is the Leo vince and arrow. I want to like the Akra but it just needs to be a touch shorter for my tastes and unless one pops up 2nd hand im not sure id buy new then take to it with a hacksaw (unless they sell a shorter version)

They all look pretty decent and know its only the 'official' akra you get the 'race remap' with, is that right?

well my question is arent you just better off buying any exhaust and having the bike mapped properly on a dyno? Ive never found the stock manufacturer 'upgrade' maps to be that good anyway and normally quite underwhelming as no two bikes are the same

So can the Tuono be mapped through the full rev range with a PCV? its not just 20% throttle (5k) and above is it like some Ducatis? (1098 SFS for example)

What about direct to ecu mapping? Ducati tuning guys can use some software which actually directly maps your stock ecu and gives brilliant results, similar with the KTM ive got as Tune-ecu is freely available. Are there any UK based tuning guys who do this?

Appreciate your input chaps and apologies if theres a million threads with this on, like ive said ive trawled the site and kinda have a good idea about most bits (although im lost on your hot starting problem, batterys maybe the way to go it seems)

Cheers all.

Damo

So I have a strange situation.

A few weeks ago I had a little incident and amongst other items, I managed to trash the standard exhaust. I then got an Austin Racing pipe and after initial displeasure at the volume worked out that I actually liked it. I am running the 50 mm (large) internal baffle with a DB killer.

This has smoothed the bottom end and the bike breathes freely with about the same volume at idle and a little more at revs (from about 4K onwards).
I have also reduced the front sprocket by 1 tooth, and spent a lot of time checking the bike alignment and tinkering to get everything spot on.

My problem is this - the bike still pulls like a train, it just does not feel as frantic as it did before the incident. I am struggling to understand this.

Any thoughts?

I am working on purchasing a TV4 and am super excited (should take possession in 14 days or so). I kinda wish I could keep my Shiver too but the payments on both are just too much. I liked the shiver, but wasn't in love with it. When I sat on a TV4 in a shop I really fell in love. The only downside is the range. I have been doing so research and here's what I plan to do in the first year.

- Touring Screen
- Soapy Lowering Link (I'm 5' 9")
- Competition Werkes exhaust
- Flapper Mod
- Frame sliders
- Woodcraft Sprocket and Clutch covers

I know the race ecu is highly suggested, but I don't think I can afford both that and the exhaust. Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Also... I work at a company that specializes in reverse engineering and laser scanning. I might remove the tank and RE the interface and design a new larger tank in CAD. So this means a possible modification to a beater tank or fabrication of my own. That's a long term thing.

Its so light and nimble and really inspires confidence. One thing i noticed and both of the bikes did it when pulling upto a traffic light; pulling in the clutch and giving the throttle (while moving) a blip there is a cluck cluck sound that comest from the gearbox/clutch side what is that and as both bikes did it I take its normal?

I am really contemplating pushing in the the DD1200 and getting one of these!
