Fine, I pinched the hose down, and it steadied out. Bad news at idle, it it sat at about 5 inches of Hg, not the 17-22 that is normal. (see:http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2393/article.html). The info at that URL says this could mean a manifold leak.

I checked the gauge by hooking it up to my mighty-vac, both meters read in lock step...

My question to the collective brain trust is, have you ever installed a vacuum gauge? What did/does it read?

Thanks,

At the risk of boring everyone I have decided to start a journal of sorts in order to track and comment about the brand new Custom I picked up at AF1 a little over a week ago. I started to do this back in 2000 when I picked up my shiny new Aprilia Falco. Then the Aprilia message board folded and I lost track. The Falco has officially been relegated to track day use and will make its debut at COTA on the 2nd of June.....(Winning!)

So I will start with the background that landed the Guzzi in my garage. I have been riding sport bikes since I first was licensed in 1979. First bike was a bright orange RD350 and many more have come and gone with a ZZR1200 most recently being sold to purchase a V-Rod Muscle.....ouch...I did and still do have the Falco so don't be too hard on me. We moved to Houston in 2010 and I found myself not riding much. No twisties close by and busy at work. I missed riding so I decided on a cruiser. Thought about a Rocket III but somehow I wanted the fastest cruiser on the market(in my mind). Whatever the case, I wanted something that I could jump on a go for some quick rides on the weekends.......what a pig that bike was. I purchased it in July of 2012 and wanted it gone in August of 2012. Just not for me. Toward the end of last year I start seeing pictures of a new Guzzi California. Having owned a 1995 Sport 1100 back in the early 2000's and actually selling European motorcycles for a few years....I was interested. I started building up momentum in my head through the winter and had myself so fired up that as soon as Ed at AF1 told me that he had a black custom in stock I put the deposit sight unseen and anguished for two weeks before I could make the trip to pick it up. On 4/27/13 I made the trip to Austin with V Rod in tow to finalize the deal. I took a pretty big hit on the V Rod but they were very generous at AF1 and I know they did the best they could. Once I saw this awesome Guzzi on the sales floor it didn't matter how big the hit was.....I was in.

My job keeps me pretty tied up but I have been able to rack up a few hundred miles so far and I have to tell you I am impressed. That 95 Sport 1100 was a pretty cool bike but it was a handful to ride. Between the motor, the transmission, the drive shaft, the mirrors and just about everything else, it was a beast. Enter the California 1400. WOW! Great to look at, outside of the normal "CLUNK" into first gear it is one of the most smoothest shifting bikes I have owned. Now it is modern and has a bunch of electronics that I haven't messed with yet but I will and I will report on it as time goes on. I did however make sure I took it out of Touring mode and out it into Veloce mode and I can notice a substantial difference. Again, I will report on this as I rack up more miles.

So...so far we have a very well built, comfortable and great looking bike that has gotten me many comments so far. It is a modern Guzzi for sure and I think it is going to be a big hit for Moto-Guzzi once everyone catches on. I have one gripe and that is that there isn't any aftermarket exhaust available yet and we need to hear this great motor.

Well, if I haven't put you to sleep yet, thanks for reading. If you are interested in more I will be commenting as I learn the bike. If you are at COTA on the 2nd of July look me up. I will be the guy with the big smile under the NAPA Auto Parts EZ-UP.

The bridge was originally built from iron in 1882 and was billed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", holding the record as the tallest railroad bridge in the world for two years. In 1900 the bridge was dismantled and simultaneously rebuilt out of steel to allow it to accommodate heavier trains. It stayed in commercial service until 1959 and was sold to the Government of Pennsylvania in 1963, becoming the centerpiece of a state park. Restoration of the bridge began in 2002, but before it was finished, a tornado struck the bridge in 2003, causing a large portion of the bridge to collapse. Corroded anchor bolts holding the bridge to its foundations failed, contributing to the collapse.

Best road of the trip might be rt 144 out of Moshannon up through Sproul Nat'l up to rt 6. We did 44 off of 144.....to bumpy!

We ended up with about 700 miles round trip on Sat/Sun. Came back doing 417 out of Corning, NY and down to rt 6. Got sidetracked near Tionesta when we were routed with other bikes to the "Blessing of the Bikes"!

I'm looking to identify the two Orange wires. The shot is of a Stelvio, taken under the nose fairing looking from the front. The silver plastic housing to the left is where the indicator fits.

I can't trace them until the weekend when I get to the bike so I was hoping to get an idea before I start. My fog lamps blow the 30amp fuse when turned on and I'm wondering if the problem is with the Orange wires, they appear to have worn through and shorting against the metal bracket.
