Wondering, and I have looked all over the forum. I cannot see that there are any major differences in the Twin Air or the AFI or the Aprilia racing. I can get the Twin Air for $50 shipped.

Any reason not to get it?

I went to work with my sxv 550 2011, everything was perfect. When I took back the bike tonight, start like a charm but the minute I change gear, the motor die same way as if I pass 1st gear without touching the clutch...

When I press the clutch, I can see that the cable is pulling correctly in the transmission so the problem is not the cable....

Any idea ? Ihad no tool so it was impossible to look at the oil but I changed it like 100km ago...

Thanks

So everythings been great I had to go like 15 miles on the freeway today.
I have a 17t front sprocket and try to keep the bike below 7k rpm if I have to ride the freeway.

Ran perfectly all the way there.
Then when I go to go home...
Fired it up warmed it up then didn't leave, fired it up again left wheelied right down the street like a low load one high up you know and clicked second everything felt great.

Go to get on the freeway in cruise / conserve the bike mode.
Short shifting.
See another in the slow lane as I'm on the onramp... Conservation mode is off I'd just really short shifted. So I clicked it down to 4th and nailed the throttle it didn't pull it at all?!? For a second I thought I was on the rev limiter but not looking at the tach and my speed.

So I continue and click it in 5th and it just kinda bogs at 8000 and 100% throttle.
So I get off next off ramp and I inspect my bike. Check oil level and make sure the plug wires are in and make sure no cotastrophe no oil in the drain hose.
I have installed a power commander a little better than a week ago and have ridden almost every day on the same map with no problem.

Anyways I just went ahead and disconnected my power commander.
Started up easy sounded normal with my helmet off revved fine.
Tested the bike on the street.
Accelerated like it should.
Get on the freeway and I'm like "fucking power commander! Pos is probably broke"
Take it all the way through 5th to 10300rpm which is as far as she ever gets in 5th with the 17t front.
Glad the bike works bummed that my pc is broke.
So I back it down to 6.8-7k and cruise it.
5 mins later I get the deamon back and I have to take it back up to but this time it did its trick again. At 7k its fine to 8 at 100% throttle but then hits a wall (my fear is its going lean). Looses power big time like almost as hitting a rev limiter.
I suspect the.
Coolant temp sensor
Throttle position sensor
Idle selonoid update thingeroo (dam I hope its not stuck open but it shouldn't be because the idle hasn't increaced)
Fuel pump problem?
Injector problem.

This is really bothering me because I work 8pm to 8am... I left work went straight to a friends house to work on a billet speedway carburetor prototype. Didn't leave untill 2pm... And back to work at 8pm..... So I really prefer to play with the bike instead of work on it.... I only live 4 miles from work and take side streets so I ride the bike every day and it keeps me sane.

But I didn't even have time to look at my baby.
What do you guys think?
Rich? Lean? Detonation.
It was hot out I wonder if I have a ect sensor problem or high coolant temp and ecu was dumping fuel but I had plenty of airflow and light load on her...

Maybe tps because it was cinsistant in the 75%100% range. I guess a malfunction here would make it run bad ecu sees the rpm and only 60% throttle when I give 100% lots of air and no fuel to back it up....

This is really freaking me out... I'm stuck at work and she's at home and I can't work on it tomorro...

It has to be the tps!.

Just picked up an 08 550. About 2100 miles ( 72hrs on the ECU) After 2 short rides comparing maps I went for a nice ride. Stopped a few times, started great each time. As I was approaching a stop sign it just died. Would not restart, just a click at the relay. I took it home in a trailer and checked the fuses and the starter which all were good. With the bike in 5th gear I can not spin the tire. I'm afraid she's seized up. I did notice some latte on the oil filler cap but when I changed the fluids, all looked fine. I also had to add a small amount of water to the radiator when doing the first round of maintenance to the bike. So 50 miles of ownership and I'm freaked out, I'm afraid that I'm about to park a bike that I just bought. No money for big repairs at the moment. :bangwall: I tried to keep this short so forgive me if I left out any necessary details.

So I did the air box mod and also I think I have figured out where my loss in power was. Walked through the How To and realized that the black plastic piece blocking the Horn looking pieces had not been removed. Everything else looks to be in tact. Throttle opens up fully, all emissions stuff removed, and exhaust cones have been removed.
Firstly I think I have finally figured out where the derestriction was not complete...THE AIRBOX!!! Always go check people if someone said it was derestricted. Make sure for YOURSELF

Now...I just cut two holes into the top of the airbox. Not going crazy and cutting a bunch of holes. But now since I removed black piece from inside and still have OEM filter, is it anything I need to do before putting it back in?!?!

Reason I ask, is I am not sure what needs to be epoxied as stated in the how to section here

"there is also a restrictor in the top of the airbox it is in the front of the top.... it is just behind what reminded me of horns.... it is s pop out it is about 1/8th away letting very little air in ...push it with your thumbs remove it the very bottom needs to be epoxied back in it pushes the front of the air filter down if you are using a OEM type filter"

This is what mine looks like right now. Do I need to do something with that gap that now sits open where the black piece sat?

I still have not hear from the dealer about the plugs for the air box and exhaust to finish the derestriction process!

2007 SXV 550 with barely 100 miles of kart track supermoto sessions only. It's an orange sealant bike. 1st owner oil changed every other track day. After session 2 at Infineon this Saturday i checked the oil and was going to add a bit and popped the cap to see that crappy white latte. Very low radiator water visable.

Got home to drop the oils and there was no issue with the oil in the engine or the tranny, oil filer area. All oil looks normal so far. Saw a good amount of clear water in my oil tank over flow bottle.

What seal would make the Oil Tank froth up like that and not get into the rest of the engine? Or did i shut it down just in time for it not to mix up?

Im prepared for a re seal but was just looking for info that i cant find on the problem threads.

Any info would help until i can chat with my mechanic tomorrow.

Thanks

Hey guys. I have a small but very annoying leak in my sxv. Or actually it's not even that small anymore. One of my coolant hoses is leaking and it's spraying the coolant all over the clutch cover. I've tried 3 different kind of hoses, I've sanded the surface of the tube (where you attach the hose) and I've tried various kinds of those little tighteners (really dont know the real term for it in english, but I think you get my point). I actually have 2 of them atm but it really doesn't work out. It's leaking just as much no matter what hose and how many tighteners.

So has any of you had this same problem? If so, how did you fix it? Or would anyone have some ideas what to do?

Here's a pic from the place it's leaking from.

Here's what the clutch cover looks like when you ride it a bit. And no, I'm not riding it anymore before I get this fixed.

Sorry for my bad terminology, hope you understand.

All help will be highly appreciated :)
