I've lurked here over the last 10 months or so. I'm considering the purchase of a sr50 scooter and would appreciate your thoughts. I'll start off with a bit of background.

I currently own a genuine buddy that is derestricted and and absolutely love it. I have put 4K miles on it in 11 months and should break 5k in my first year of ownership. I really enjoy the 2T and the handling of the small bike. The ability to park anywhere works great in my urban environment. I use it to commute to work almost everyday of the year. There are a couple months where that is impossible because of the amount of snow we get. I will ride down to about 25F as long as there is no ice on the road. I also have some pretty good sized hills in my area and have to be selective about which routes I take because of them.

As stated I enjoy my current bike but I think I would like the slightly higher top speed and better climbing ability that the sr50 might provide. The only modifications I would be interested in for the sr50 would be the ecu and variator ring restrictions (maybe a pipe mod). Other than that I am more interested in long term durability and gas mileage.

My questions/concerns about the sr50 include the following. 1) The durability, are these things pretty much bullet proof when not modded? 2) Cost, compared to what I purchased my "Genuine" for these are extremely expensive. 3) Would you purchase new or used? I can afford to purchase one new but spending ~$3600 on a 50cc scooter is tough to swallow. I purchased my "Genuine" for real cheap ($900) with almost no miles (280) on it and it was not even derestricted. My concern about purchasing a used sr50 is most seem to be highly modified and there are not many where I live. 4) How do these handle cold weather? 5) My local dealer will not derestrict the sr50. I can take care of the variator ring but I would need to send the ecu out to have HGT perform the service. 6) Do these make good commuter bikes? I ride 14 miles round trip to work every day. I also use the bike for errands and for fun on the side.

Anyhow, I would be interested in any thoughts you may have about my questions and concerns. Thanks in advance.

I managed to get the straight pin and the spring-loaded pins off the front, so I can tip the front of the seat up a few degrees, but the back remains stuck firmly in place. I've tried fishing under the seat with a thin wood rod, trying to move the catch free, but no luck. Any ideas very much appreciated!

So for a couple weeks now I've had the weirdest issue with my bike and I can't seem to find a cure. The bikes starts and idles just fine, but whenever I apply the throttle the fuel pressure drops. I can still ride the bike but its so lean on the top end that I've lost 5+ mph. Turning up the fuel pressure just makes it sputter and backfire. I've tried resetting the regulator many times with no luck.

Right before this happened I changed out the air line from my compressor to my water trap and when I went to start the bike I had a problem with my regulator not showing any change in fuel pressure when cycling the kill switch. I was able to resolve that issue over time, but this one has me stumped.

I'm guessing its something tweaked with the regulator itself, but I don't want to take it apart because I wouldn't know where to start on my own.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'd like to get her back on the road so I don't have to rely on my truck.

Hi Tecno wizzes
I needs some pointers with my sons Aprilia Sr50 Factory Ditech. The poor bugger brought it last year and after riding it for only 1 day has been off the road for 8 months. I cant find a dealer any where that will deal with this ped.
The Ped starts fine and idles okay, when you try and open the throttle hot or cold the thing splutters, farts and backfires like a good en. I have had a so called bike mechanic look at it and so far I have shelled out for a new strator and pick up, cdi, battery, injector seal kit, 2x spark plugs, head gasket set and exhaust. Still the problem exists and im fed up throwing money at the thing. I understand cars with carbs, not this new stuff LOL.
I have now after taking the ped back and reading the forums checked the air compressor pressure and the fuel pump pressure after having to buy the kit to test it. all is within the specs identified in the downloaded manual. If the ped was a car I would say the timing is out. also when I test the spark from the plug with my tester I get a good spark at idle but as you pick the revs up the spark goes dimmer if you catch my drift.
I feel guilty as hell as I told my son this was a good ped to buy and he spent his hard earned cash on it, he was 16 when he got it and turns 17 next week. Total riding time 2 hours. Help me with my disgrace.
Thanks

I am heading to BC (via the northern US states, more on that in a bit) with my Sister and her kids to visit our brother who lives in Vancouver.

We will be heading out on the 19th or 20th of July and should be back home in or around the 10th to 12th of August.

The "plan" at this point is to head south to South Dakota to take in Mount Rushmore and the Black hills. Then continue across the northern states with stops along the way till we hit Washington. Then, north to BC. The return leg will be across the Prairies.

At this point, I am intending to trailer my bike and bring it along. I hope to meet up with the Vancouver guys and have you all show me the site and your bikes!

Will be tweeting along the way with pics and status updates.

Any recommendations for stops along the way?

As the thread title states, this thread is for members to post pics (and stories) of any and all SR50 engine parts that have failed. This will be mostly for the engine, but other SR50 part failures (i.e tire failure while ridding, clutch or variator failure, front forks/rear shock, rear gears, etc.) are also welcome.

In your post, give a brief synopsis of what happened (i.e. out riding and there was this noise then nothing, or she was fine but just wouldn't start, etc). Also tell us other pertinent information such as loss of coolant prior to failure, or having run out of oil, etc. Then follow the story and pics up with what you did for a repair and how things have been going.

The key here is we want your pics. Try to take as clear a pic as possible and from multiple angles where possible.

Don't post the whole story or question(s) looking for answers. For that, start your own thread. This thread is just to show other members in one place what kind of damage can happen under all kind of circumstances, driving conditions etc.

I will add a link in the Sticky "Read Me First!" to help members find the thread quickly.

I changed my stock pipe to a ZX/R and am having some power loss. At times it feels that I am getting full fuel pressure but when at wot it cuts back until I let off of the throttle a little bit and then it may pick up or may not. When I put the stock pipe back on it seems to do fine. I have tried numerous sets of rollers and have found 6.7 to work the best rpm range. I have changed out the fuel filter with a new one and have tried numerous contras ending up with white and also using red clutch springs. Did a TPS reset. ZX/R pipe has had restriction removed. I get better top end with the stock pipe ending up somewhere in the 46mph range on the speedo. I will not get near that with the ZX/R. Anything that you guys can think of would be greatly appreciated.
This is terrible to see that. In crankcase there is melted piston small particles, like small aluminium scattered all over. Is that mean my crankshaft could be damaged too? my crankshaft is brand new malossi and it extremely expensive.
Can suggest why my piston melted?
And could be that my crankshaft gone too? How to know.
The crankshaft looks okay itself and I can't see any scratches or burns.
I'm depress as I just spend hundreds euro on that mod.
:bangwall:

Thank in advance.
