Another guy has an '09 Factory, also asking $1700ish.

What are things to watch out for on these? Is 4000 miles high? Thinking back to my 80's dirtbike days, I'm thinking top end, etc. at some point?
Look for insight on issues / price / fair deal, etc.
Many thanks!

Brand new to scooter world by way of nephew. He bought a used 2005 Scarabeo had taken it to a mechanic to get it running. The mechanic drained old gas and put in new spark plug. It ran for about 40 miles and quit. He ask me to look at it. I changed the main fuel line out of the tank as it was cracked and cleaned internal fuel filter. The fuel pump will turn on as it is priming but no starting of the bike. The fuel pump is the external kind that mounted on frame rail.I took off the fuel line going to the injector from the fuel pump and no gas is coming out. Can the fuel pump sound like it priming and still be bad? Just trying to figure out why no fuel? I want to try to find out if it's the fuel pump that's bad before I would buy a new one for 190.00 bucks.

Thanks for your help! Many years riding a Guzzi, but not scooters.

Hi Gang,

First timer here. After lots of research took the plung and upgraded my GF's Mojito 50 to 70cc. So far results are good but upon test drive the scoots GPM plumeted big time. 5 miles of hilly riding here in San francisco burned 1/4 tank! I can't find any leaks or gas smells and exhaust is nearly invisible. I have no idea what's causing rapid burning on fuel. Any advice, theories, suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'll start from the begining.

'04 Mojito Custom 50cc, 3k miles on original engine.
Malossi 70cc cast iron kit
Original head & standard gasket.
Stock Carb and 70 main jet
stock exhaust albeit hacked open and unrestricted.

Installed new kit with plenty of 2 stroke oil rubbed all around.

Used stock air box, stock carb and stock #70 jets because I ordered the wrong jets. Can't find the Sudco Keihin jets to save my life.

Added 1oz of oil to gas tank to help cyclinder brake in.

New engine kicked to life on 10th kick. Idled low and smooth for 15 min. Smoky exhaust. Cylinder temp never exceeded 103F.

Shut her off and checked plug which was dark & wet. Assumed assembly oil and extra 1oz was the reason. Cleaned plug and put back in and let her idle for another 10 minutes. Exhaust cleared up

Checked plug again and lightened to a dark, dry, even brown

Put new plug in, test ride up to 1/2 throttle. Great power band, no bog down or sputter. Clear exhaust. Never exceeded 120F

Checked plug, light tan brown and dry. Cleaned plug and went for a extended 3/4 throtle ride where I first noticed horrible GPM.

Topped off tank and resumed riding through hilly neighborhood and closely watched gas guage go down:( Power band, torque and everything still felt awesome. Sniffed around for any leaks and couldn't detect anything...?

Ended up using stock airbox instead of this pod filter to reduce chances of a lean combustion with the original #70 jet.

First plug check after intitial start up and 15min idle.

2nd Plug check after further 10 minutes of idle and a few 1/2 throttle turns.

3rd Plug check after 5 miles of up and down hills up to 3/4 throttle. Light brown, dry, even color all over.

What's burning my fuel?!!!!

Greetings - I've been reading through this forum for a couple of weeks and am quite drawn to the Aprilia line - new to scooters though some motorcycle experience.

I have been scouring my area for an affordable used, but decent Scarabeo 50. I found a 2002 today with 3200 miles on it - near mint condition cosmetically, everything seems to be absolutely fine mechanically. Scooter was never ridden in the winter, poor weather, etc. Not a scratch on it so I presume no accident. Original owner. All stock. The tires look very good though they are original to 2001. The only issue is it needs a new battery - kick starts just fine, all electronics appear to work just fine - owner forgot and left the battery (also original) in the scooter last winter. He said he could replace but will sell a bit cheaper if I take care of the battery.

On the my question then: I trust that it is indeed the battery - but is is possible (likely?) that the problem is electrical (as i say, the headlights, horn, turn signals all work when the bike is running).

Seller is asking $1100 - seems like a solid deal. Any thoughts/concerns appreciated. If none expressed, I'll plan to buy it and look forward to participating in future forum discussions.

Cheers.

What I am wondering is if anyone out there has had experience tuning with this pipe? I have a cast iron Malossi kit on it now. Its alright but its never revved all that hot to me. I had a 1999 49cc vertical Minarelli that revved way hotter then this Malossi kit. The Derbi I have with a 49cc Piaggio also revs hotter. I dunno whats up but I am thinking it may have to do with porting of the kit or a chance that it may be the pipe it has. The vertical Minarelli I ran had a Leo Vince ZX or something and the Derbi I have has the stock Derbi racing pipe.

At any rate I am thinking of getting a sport tuned 70cc cylinder kit to replace the economy cast iron Malossi I have now. I was wondering if the pipe I have could handle one of these sport kits. Has anybody had, utilized, or have seen one of these SR50 stock pipes run with a 70cc sport kit?

2001 SR50 Minarelli LC Ignition Identification Question

I am looking to buy an unlimited rev ignition for my 2001 Aprilia SR50 LC. It has the carburated Minarelli motor. This is the CDI that I would like to purchase:

http://www.spi-parts.com/scooter-par...t-malossi.html

The ad says the CDI will fit most Minarellis. It goes on to say some a few Minarellis have a rare Ducati ignition and that the CDI won't work with those Minarellis. It says that this rare Ducati stator & flywheel is in scooters without VIN numbers. My SR50 has a VIN number and the motor ID is 4MA-AP M1005878.

I am wondering did any of the SR50s ever have this Ducati ignition? Is there a way to positively ID the ignition I have without pulling the muffler, water pump and fly wheel?

The reason I am asking is cause according to parts suppliers and Aprilia they stopped making the SR50s with Minarelli LC motors in 1999 but mine is a 2001 with a Minarelli LC. Kind of an odd bird I guess.

Thanks.
