After a very long break from riding/track days and racing I am hoping to make a come back soon. My younger brother passed away and I lost all interest in most "fun" things. I feel its time to get back to life.

My beloved 2004 RS250 has been stored in my garage for over 18 months. last time I rode the bike, it was at VIR during Cornerspeed Race school.

The battery is dead (ordered a sealed replacement and is on its way), tires only have two track days on them but will be replaced.

I am looking for suggestions/recommendations on any/all fluids and items I should replace/refresh before hitting the track again.

thank you

Hi everyone! New at this forum, searched on google and the forum about this topic but never found a complete thread about what to do to get the ultimate quick throttle. Just a bunch of un finished topics..

Some has bought the domino 1333.07 (same as i have used for the RD350 F2) with modifications done,
some have gotten different types of throttles.
some tend to modify the stock cable, some say they bought a RGV cable and some has gotten a custom made wire. And even so some say that the throttle gets to stiff/hard?

what i would lile to get is a guide on what to buy, what to expect and what i might have to modify on stockparts to make things work.

Also what is the minimum stroke for the carbs to fully open? The 1333.07 domino grip is quite expensive, if there was a minimum stroke, maybe there would be easier to get a cheaper model?

Hi!! I can't find the answers to these questions. Excuse my noobness

I'm changing my fork seals. I have a manual. Going to replace bushes with genuine too along with genuine seals and dust seals.

the manual states to use either 20w oil or 5w? Or mix the two? I don't know what to do here. 20w sounds pretty heavy and 5w pretty light. Shall I just go for 10?

I need a fork seal driver. I'm right in thinking the showa's use a 41mm fork seal driver?

last thing is the ex owner just rebuilt them for me. He runs a shop and is useless. They came back with one having 300ml of clean oil and the other with 400ml of dirty oil! I replaced with clean oil with the correct gaps. I fitted the forks on the bike today and the lh fork, which incidentally is the same one that leaked in the first place, is poring out oil. As if the seal isn't there? It didn't leak or I didn't think it leaked before I fitted them. Just a small amount of oil visable which I thought was excess. They didn't even leak on the bike as it sat. They only pour out when I pump the forks. Why is this? Has he ripped the seal or put it in upside down? Or not replaced bushes? Help lol

I have an idea, but i don't want to disassemble my forks, as i don't want to damage them if it is for no use.
I'm interested how can this part be puled or screwed of, the fork, (i know the pictured forks are of an mk1 but for the reference it will be useful) and how does it look inside? I'm thinking of some mod, but cant find any info on the question.
So if anyone has a bent one, and is willing to do the dissemble and take few pictures, i would be grateful.
Thanks in advance

Posting this to see if there's enough interest for me to make it more of a priority than it currently is.

As most around here know finding aftermarket levers for our bikes is a fool's errand. Though different perches can be fitted and other tricks have been found to make something work, there is not (afaik) a direct bolt on replacement for the stock levers. The issue lies in the base of the lever (the part where the pivot pin and clutch cable are attached and to which the lever itself attaches and adjusts to). It would seem that the RS250 has a unique base shape and my guess is the lack of sufficient market for aftermarket levers for this bike is what keeps the manufacturers from producing parts to fit.

I have the ability to model the necessary part in CAD that we can then send out to be fabricated. I have plans to do this anyway since I want levers for my bike but at the moment it's a very low priority for me. Since I plan to do it eventually anyway, I'm more than happy to provide this "service" to the general community and set up a group buy to reduce the cost of the part. There are some issues that everyone needs to be aware of though.

1) Cost, this will be entirely determined by the number of people who commit to the group buy so for now I have no idea what it will cost.
2) commitment, because the only way to reduce cost is to make as many parts as possible in one shot, money must be collected before parts are made. This means everyone will have to pay some kind of deposit. The amount will be determined once actual cost is figured out but it may be up to 100% of the actual part price
3) finish, the parts will be cnc'd from 6061 but will come as raw aluminum. Anodizing OR powdercoating is an option as a group but will add to the cost or everyone can figure out how to finish the parts themselves

Once we have the bases, I have a good friend that imports aftermarket levers. He sells complete sets for (i think) $55. I can work with him to provide complete sets of assembled levers to everyone that wants to do this. I would assume no more than a $5-10 discount on his price for providing the clutch base but I will work with him on that and find out. So basically the total cost of the set would be the cost of the base + 45-50 bucks. More info on his levers here:http://434racer.com/Products.html

If you are seriously interested in this please post up here and based on the response I will either move this up the priority list or get to it whenever I get to it.

Just a few, to begin and to check if I did them right.

A pair raw, black, red, gold and purple are available (I wanted to check what kind of color the material would have after anodizing). Those are ergal made (7075), and colors are quite "dark" due to 7075 properties (yes, I know, having them ergal made is useless but I had this material available so I used it...). Also I didn't manage to do a right oring seat so I use them with gaskets (provided with the kit).

I don't know if I will do them again, I'm quite satisfied about these for this moment. :D
The old Chinese man says: be satisfied of what you do because anyone else will try to belittle your actions

If anyone interested, I'd like to sell complete kit (as picture show) for 38 euros + shipment.

The Devils Airbox!

From the second I started working on this bike, one area has caused problems all along, those sodding airbox rubbers. They are a bit worn I'll admit, but seem useable and are certainly good enough for getting this bike finished. What I just can't work out is why they are such a bitch to get on!

When trying to fit the airbox onto the carbs, it is almost like the carbs are in the wrong position (but they can only fit in the correct position). No matter how I go about fitting the airbox, one of the rubbers will be virtually falling off it's respective carb. Even when I think everything is fitted correctly, and tight, a slight tap of the airbox will result in one of the rubbers popping off it's carb. We have a new set of rubbers on their way, but in the meantime a few questions for you.

1: Is there a knack to fitting the airbox/rubbers correctly?

2: Is there some known problem that creates this problem I'm having?

3: Are new rubbers likely to cure this problem?

4: (Playing with ideas here)...

Are there any aftermarket individual air filters worth considering as a solution? I am thinking of things like K&N's or similar.

(If we went this route then I realise it would need jets and probably some dyno time).

Please find an answer for me, I'm losing the will to live because of this airbox!
