Red light comes on sometimes when I rev my SXV450 before changing gears.
As I don't have a user manual to look up, what does this mean ??

your hitting the preset rev limit. you can can this via dashboard. Mine was set to 8000 rpm, when i first picked the bike up. The dealer reset it for me.

I'm not sure what mine is set at now but since the first service I haven't seen it light up but then again I haven't reved it past 9-9500rpm...
At this point riding around on the road on my own I don't need to either. Unless I want to loose my licence (again)...

to set it you must set the display on rpm graphic then you have to push both scroll and mode buttons for more than 5 seconds.
so you will see the n. of rpm that make lamp the led.
each pressure of the scroll button will increase the n,. of one unit, to pass at the 2nd 3rd number u just have to wait 2 seconds.
after you make it you have to press the scroll for memorizing everything!
thta's all.

It seems to be set at 8000rpm before the first service, which is the running-in limit for the first 3 hours. But because of that stupid delay, it comes on about a second after you hit 8000rpm. I don't know what they set it to after the service, but the manual says the rev limiter trips at 12,000rpm for the SXV450 and 11,500rpm for the 550.
I've been riding a 748 for the last few years and had only 1 speeding fine. After riding this thing three times i get the impression that i'll be lucky to hang on to my license for six months!
