Benelli in USA
NA
Update on the status of Benelli in the USA. The AMA Superbike races were held at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Racetrack and Museum grounds in Birmingham, Alabama this past weekend. One of the vendor boothes was Benelli. Or more accurately stated, Moto Point, Inc. of Stahlstown, PA manned by Joseph DiStefano. His company specializes in Benelli upgrades. He is currently putting together a network of USA dealers to sell and service the Benelli line. Present were two of his partners and two current Benelli models, the Cafe Racer and the TNT Tornado. They created a lot of excitement at the race. Hopefully Joseph can make this happen for us Benelli fans. He can be reached at 724.593.6208, fax 724.593.6216, cell 412.298.6734. Web is www.motopoint.com

I have ridden the Benelli Tornado, and they have a fantastic motor. I like the tripples feel of low down grunt like a twin, but the ability to wind out like a 4. And what a howl when you do. Finding neutral was, well, it will make you feel the Aprilia was easy! Long live Italian Motorcycles!

Oh shiiiite! Benelli.....me likes......Tornado!!! I could have one. I just find them to be so good looking. Perhaps the most sexy bike made today.
I've had my falco since Jan2002....I have been thinking of a new street bike for a while. The Falco has great staying power though. I imagine in the next two years I may need a new one. Tuono? V4 Aprilia superbike? Tornado? 1130 Tornado?TNT?
Benelli in the USA is a very good thing.

I LOVE the way this baby looks, probably my all time favorite...but I still wouldn't trade my Tuono for one.

I wish the Tornado came with the 1130cc TNT motor...

It soon will. There are a few new models due to be released following the financial rescue of Benelli by Chinese investors. One of these models is apparently an 1130cc Tornado to go head to head with the Jap 1000cc 4s.

I just hope the chinese make an effort to sort out Benelli's build and after sales issues. last year I was buying a new sportsbike and the choices were RSVR Factory (used), 749, or Benelli Tornado. I did a little research on the Benelli owners forum and decided immediately to steer clear. More than 50% of owners were deeply unhappy with the serivce they were receiving, particularly on basic warranty issues. Of course I bought the 749 :bangwall: . Should've bought the RSV all along. Better the devil you know ......

Without a doubt, some of the best looking styling to come outta Italy, but if you think Aprilia's are a little finicky and hard to get parts........well these are even moreso.

Everything I have read says the mapping is off, but that's fixable. I'll stick with my Rotax, I just trust it more.

But they do look like sex on 2 wheels............

That's awesome. Joe is a Pittsburgh guy and one of the top italian motorcycle mechanics in the country. He worked on the Ducati Ferraci race team for a while and up until recently was the personal mechanic for alot of Pittsburgh's in-the-know italian motorcycle owners. I believe Bene used him for a while.

He's a good guy for them to be involved with.

Wow - how much???

Assuming you mean the standard Tornado Tre, for once I'm glad I live in UK !
As advertised in this week's MCN by KJM Superbikes:

Tornado Tre £5,999 (approx $11,290)
Tornado RS £6,999 (approx $13,170)
The 1130s are a bit more:

Tre-K 1130 £7,999 (approx $15,050)
TNT Naked 1130 £8,699 (approx $16,370)
TNT Sport 1130 £9,499 (approx $17,870)
Tornado Tre 1130 £9,999 (approx $18,820)

All for an Italian bike styled by a Brit - Adrian Morton - who studied Automotive Design at Coventry University

(Actually, the prices above are not as different as I originaly thought - exchange rates seem to have shifted quite a bit lately).

if you're in so.cal., you can stop by our shop as we usually have a benelli around (i've owned four - two standard tre & two l.e.). right now we have a brand new green/silver tre (doing exhaust & tuning) and a custom tnt we built.

I love the looks of the TNT, but having seen an ex demo at my nearest dealer that's had a few miles on it all I can say is... pile o'shite, the paint is peeling off the swingarm and subframe, the exhausts are rusting away, the yokes are furry and white, not a pretty sight at all! And since they've gone bust, they're not honouring any warrentee work, the shop is having to foot the bill themselves and are quite a few quid (thousands!) out of pocket.

Sexy they may be, but untill the new Chinese buyer has sorted the take-over paperwork out, I wouldn't touch a Benelli with a shitty stick.

hppsco
06-04-2006, 01:44 PM
WOW Noojie, that's harsh reality!
hmmm, sounds as though they have ALOT of problems.
So, are you telling me Benelli is kaput in the UK also?
They just don't exist to be manufactured anywhere? I was, I guess incorrectly assuming they were still in production in Europe.????:WTF:

Nooj
06-04-2006, 03:30 PM
Everything is on hold. Something to do with the Italian insolvency laws as I understand it. Eventually, the new investors will get the company up and running again and reimburse them for the warrentee work they have done, which may take a couple of years, but untill then, it's down to the dealers who bought the stock to deal with the problems. The general feeling at the moment with the dealer I spoke to is that they are through with Benelli, and don't care if they never see one again.

we are not a dealer. there are two companies (gp star in ca. & motopoint in pa.) that bring them into the country (they are u.s./california legal models - the bikes have the stickers & paperwork). we just do the prep work and performance tuning for them (we have also built a couple of customized benellis).

The shop I bought my Falco from is a Benelli dealer. I had a really close look at the Benellis when I was there last.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of their build. There were rusting bolts on them - and these were demo bikes that never went out in the rain. If you read the Benelli owner's forum, there are endless complaints about the EFI screwing up, the poor build quality, the crap electrics, and more.

Styling-wise, they are utterly gorgeous. Especially the TnT, but there's no way I'll buy one.

I have seen many people reply that the Benellis seem to have rusting problems, wiring problems, all the rest goes unmentioned.
I hope these new people who are promoting them in the US can help with the manufacturing issues when they start coming back out.
for now, I have a Falco, and soon it will be done being rebuilt!

Last year on a trip to Germany, I got to feel up a couple of Benellis. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but that TNT is sex on wheels to me. Damn but one day I will own one. Sit on it once and it feels like it is part of you. The Tornado on the other hand is just plain weird when you get up close. The weird face and those fans on the back, like Flash Gordon or something. Sit on it with any aggression and that hump in the back of the gas tank will crack the top of your pubic bone so hard that you'll walk bent over for the next four hours. Believe me cause I tried it. I'd hate to hit something with that bike cause it would tear your old P.B. right out of your body. I hope the company gets their stuff together so that one day I'll be the proud owner of a "TNT 1130 Sport". Damn they're hot looking.

Pretty good site that explains a fair amount.

The damage on the bike turned out to be all superficial scratches/abrasions.

Is there a dealer in the Seattle area which has stock of the TnT's especially the cafe racer? Or is the closest place that place in Idaho? I hate it when they don't put prices on their website. Does anyone have an idea what a good price is on a TNT cafe racer in the US?

I looked at your web site. It doesn't show any of your bikes, -pooh - too bad!
I am out on the East Coast, connecticut, so I can't just "stop by" the show room.
Maybe perhaps you will eventually transport bikes to the East Coast????:bump:
The green TNT is my favorite!
I think that's last years color, right?

If you ever come up to NH, there's a new Benelli dealer (www.nationalpowersports.net) located near me. They have 3 new TNT's in stock........a standard model in GREEN, a SPORT in black, and a CAFE in a gold/orange color.

:cheers::peace:

Guys,
If you have any Benelli technical/service issues, let me know. A local tuner/shop owner is working for Benelli as one of their service guys. I was just at his shop today chatting about it. Sat on a cafe today. Too cold to ride it!

So you met Joe DeStefano RM ? He's a great guy and a hell of an Italian bike mechanic ! He's worked on my Falco and Ducati's many many times.
He's the only one that touches my bikes !:worship:

Joe and i go back a way.

He did the bore kit on my Ducati M900.
He built the motor for my SV 650 racebike
He helped with a little race prep issue on the Triumph 675
He let me borrow tools.
He machined parts for me.
I could go on and on..............

I repay him by calling and asking for last minute repairs so i can make a race weekend in 5 days!!

I'm putting together a little gift for him and Pam this Christmas. Kind of a "Thank you" for helping my race efforts.

Right down the road neighbor. Just south of Bridgeville in Washington County. We had to have crossed paths somewhere along the line.

I'm a CR for NESBA and race the WERA schedule too. Don't ride on the street much, but enjoy the bench racing community and activities locally.

I didn't get to the track this summer but I sure miss it.
I'd like to find some people to watch racing in the area with, do you and some buddies get together ?

There are quite a few local Pittsburgh WERA racers and we try to watch the televised stuff together every now and again. Most of us are at the track racing when that happens though!!

I certainly don't want to step on this forums toes, but there are two local Pittsburgh forums to link up with locals.

Bikerplanet.net is the more relaxed, joking, chat about anythin forum. Don't let some of the juvenile banter scre you away...... good peeps.

Steelcityriders.com is a bit more serious. More ADV riders and hard core distance riders. Again, a great group of guys.

Many will visit both sites, as i do. It is a great way to get to meet fellow Pittsburgh riders.

They are not to "experienced" with Benelli bikes. My bike has been running poorly since an attempt was made with loading a new map.

i wouldn't go near benelli after all the negative reliability reports, and today i met a guy w/ a benelli waiting for a tow after his brake line came off mid-ride and splashed brake fluid all over his front tire. his bike is the 2008 tre, with about 2000 miles on it. he said at 1200 miles, the engine blew up during normal street riding. benelli put a new engine from the race bikes on it, which is great. but now what about the rest of the bike. it looked gorgeous from a distance, but up close, you can see the cheap fit and finish. caveat emptor (buyer beware).

Yep, entertained buying one "very briefly" a few conversations with Benelli USA and a look at who some of the dealers were, etc, and I ran away very fast.
