Hi dowzerr, where are you located in scotland ?I have a CCM R30, until the 550 arrives, was looking at a KTM660SMC but after reading the write up in the supermoto magazine the Aprilia is getting ordered.

i have had my sxv 550 for abt a month now and its spent nearly all that time at the dealer for repairs.i have actualy had custardy of the bike for no more than 7 days total and have only had the chance to do 300 miles on it.today i have asked for my money back .i have owned over 30 bikes in my life time ,the sxv has not been a plesent one.the faults with my bike still need more time to resolve so in short.my opinion is, do yourself a favor and dont do it.:bangwall:

I think that anyone that gets the opportunity should buy it. :)

The 550 should be with the dealer soon and he's offered me a run on it when it's built. It won't be de-restricted but at least I'll get a feel for the bike.I must admit that I'm a bit unsure about buying it now,I'll probably wait for some more feedback first.

More than likely your dealer hasn't got a clue what hes doing with the bike rather than it being a fault with the machine itself. Very few people in the uk know their way around the bikes yet because of the lack of technical support from aprilia uk - we obtained nearly all our info on the machines from other sources, but im happy to say that touchwood all the bikes we have dealt with are running fine. It's not like they are having an easy life either as they are being raced in the british supermoto gp.
Whats been the nature of your problems?

I have an SXV450 which I use for racing. There have been problems but I think that this has to be expected from a newly developed machine (I know they have been racing them for a couple of years but that is differnt, they get TLC full time from a dedicated mechanic....this is mass production). Give it a couple of months and all the little glitches, both mechanincal (e.g. oil level, lack of greasing in suspension needle bearings, Crank nut 100Nm torque) and software mapping will be addressed in the factory but all mechanical are quite manageable at home.........it just takes a little time. The aprilia dealer I got my bike from in Wales (Kickstart Motorcycles) have been extra helpful and forthcoming with info.
Half the fun of these new bikes is ironing out the issues and trying to get the most out of them.

Thanks to all for your input and my decision has been to put off buying the 550,I'll look at it again in 12 months. In the meantime I've bought a new KTM 660SMC,they had a price reduction of over £1000.00 so it will do nicely this year.
