 Just went down to my local Aprillia shop to heckle them about when my 2006 Tuono was going to be in (they think about 3 weeks btw), and on the showroom floor is a 2004 Racing that was just dropped off on consignment. The guy wants $12,500. The bike has less than 1,300 miles on it, and has an Akropovic can and a Power Commander III.

The bike is just beautiful and is truly "showroom" condition.

Man, I am stuck on the horns of a dilemma here. GG

thats a sweet deal on a Racing.....remember, the Racing has all the cool bits the 06 Tuono wont come with. You're getting the OZs, Ohlins everything, and all the carbon fiber.

Your missing out on the new chassis, bodywork, and engine, but you could be riding that Tuono Racing tomorrow.

Thanks guys, that was all I needed. :D Will pick up the Racing this afternoon.

Being the greedy pig that I am, I'm trying to negotiate a lower sales price. Oink Oink.

Well, I got it. Wow, what a different feel. Faster, quicker, ...much more demanding of your attention.

I sense the start of a wonderful new relationship. :lover:

BTW, the salesman turned out to be a much better pig than me. I ended up paying 13.2 OTD (taxes were a thousand by themselves), but he was a liar and for the extra bucks he stuck me with he will never get another sale out of me.

The Owner of this shop is totally cool (and fast to boot), but if anyone asks my advice I will tell them to deal only with the owner.

Too bad what should have been a glorious time was tainted by someone hell bent on stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

And after sitting on my deposit and being several weeks behind delivery on my order of a new bike, I sort of felt that they would do the right thing and give me an extra good deal on the used bike. BUT NO, not even a stinkin' tee shirt :bond:

Oh well, live and learn. Tomorrow when I am up on Palomar Mtn. I won't be thinking of any salesman spinning webs of deceit in thier dank and windowless little office. :) GG

Gordon, I would have gone for the Factory as well. The 'Racing' was only offered for '03 as it came with extra bodywork and Ti slip on. After that the bike was just that, the bike, no extra goodies and the name was changed to 'Factory'. In '04 the wheels were still white, then in '05 the wheels went back to blue.

As for getting the good deal, etc... You stated that the bike was a 'consignment', so the owner regulates the selling price not the dealer. Also, the dealer has no control over delivery of the unit. This solely rests on the manufacturer, Piaggio. It is my understanding that Piaggio has yet to delivery any '06 Tuono's into the US. I have not heard of a single dealer who has one. (I may be incorrect but I don't think so)

So, not all of your issues rest on the salesman, I'm guessing he is just doing his job within the limits given to him.

Now, go ride that beauty and enjoy it. I've had the opportunity to ride one myself and it was pure pleasure. I've only ridden two other Tuono's that I thought were better...but that's another story...

Cheers. :peace:

Gordon,

Every time I ride mine, I say to my riding buddies:
"Have I told you how much I love this bike?"
I've got about 4K miles on mine now, and it hasn't missed a beat.

Ed had it right...it comes stock with all the goodies.

If you want to talk setup, send me a PM. I know you had a standard Tuono, so most of what I can tell you is probably not real news, but may save you some time.

Congrats Gordon, I know your dilema. There was the same situation at my dealer. They too had a Racing on consignment with 700k's (420 miles!) on it (and I think there were only a few that came out to Australia). It was same price as I paid for the '06, and I did think more than once about it. They look absolutely awesome and with all the goodies, hard to go past.

You are right MarcV, you are guessing and you don't know the whole story. But feel free to speculate. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/crazy/083.gif

Sorry Gordon, please don't take it the wrong way. Obviously I was guessing and just like the lotto, I guessed incorrectly.

Please accept my apology.

Still hope you are enjoying your ride...

Obviously way behind on this thread but I would have also purchased that factory.

Good choice!

MarcV, no apologies necessary and I am enjoying the ride. Time may prove it to have been a hasty move if the '06 turns out to be awesome, but the bike is just too cherry to pass up. :) GG

WOW! After a few rides on the Racing, it is amazing how much better it works. So much more nimble and willing to flick from knee to knee. I know now that I made the right choice, especially after reading that the '06 has heavier, chinese-OZ copy wheels. How could Aprilia do that?? The cost could not be that much to sell your soul to the devil. Maybe they have a new "Racing" planned for 2007 (hope)
