That's some good photo-shop...I'm not knocking it, I would absolutely love Aprilia to build it. I would be the first knot-head in line with money in hand (once they actually delivered it) They could re-invent the "lightweight sportbike" category in the US. Think about it, a sub 300 pound (dry), fully faired, 550 twin, making 53 BHp (stock), with upside down forks, radial mount calipers, braced swingarm, under-tail exhaust, rocket...would kick ass! :worship:

Unfortunately, the Italians think that the US is a one track mind market where bigger is better, so it's going to be up to us (no pun intended) to let them know that this bike would sell very, very well here in the states. So go to aprilia.com and give them your feedback. Then maybe, just maybe, they will build it.

until then, I'm buying a RXV 550 and RS250 chasis and doin' it myself.

correction : photoshop marriage of the '06 RS125, the SXV swinger and frame, and SXV exhausts.

I love it, but would miss the lovely smell of 2-stroke in the morning I have now with the RS250. My SV650R would have to go though !

Photoshop or not, that's the most exciting thing I've seen in a while. Hope they build it, and I hope it makes more than 58 hp. MarcV, what's happening - when we doing lunch?

I hope it makes more than 58 hp.

I've just read a roadtest of the production SXV. Exact numbers aren't officially anounced, but the Aprilia mecanics present at the test claimed the 450 had 62hp and the 550 had 70hp ! I presume this would be at the cranck, but it sounds nice. So : with a bit of tuning : 80hp anyone ?

I'm wondering how they can extend the service intervals on an official street bike, with the same dirt based motor. I'd imagine they'd have to lower the redline a little or something, I just don't see how they could feasibly sell a street bike that has to be rebuilt so often. Track bike however I could totally dig :worship:

And they say my 250 2-stroke needs a lot of rebuilts ! And it has almost 70bhp at the crank without doing crazy mods. It just convinces me : 2 strokes rule !

*drool* thats a pretty pretty bike...

I can guarantee it would sell well here in the UK as well...

To be honest though, now that I think about it, I havent really seen too many Aprilias on the road over here. Except for the kids with their 125s and RS50s, I really havent seen many about... hmm...

a good rvf 400 will go for 6-7k.My girlfriend just bought an NSR250 (92) with only 6000 miles on it and the little bugger is such a blast to ride.
America needs a small sportbike!!!

This is so obvious a P-shop special, but I've been saying for years that a small light sport oriented bike that could be made to be a naked standard with a low seat hight as a starter with the ability to be made into a true sport/track bike such as higher subframe/seat, better shock/forks, and bodywork would be fantastic . I'd be first inline.
But would it sell in the US in numbers I'm not sure .
I think a high quality small starter bike with a low seat hight thats not intimidating to woman and not a cruiser would sell well here .
What do you guys think ??????

Keith where did you find the 250 and is it registered for street use ?
I like to know if it's possible to bring one in from Canada that size or a 400cc bike ?

The bigger problem would be that you can't buy a RS250 in Canada.

Do you mean anymore or never could ?

mikeyyc

Never could. They were never approved for import by Transport Canada. If some were brought in for closed course racing, they may be here, but they won't be streetable.

Do you guys up there in Canada have many 400cc or similar sized sport bikes on the road or for sale used ?

You can get those in the US. I got mine on e-bay, They are there often. Check out www.400greybike.co.uk as well.

There's not much. Don't forget that there's more people in California that there is in ALL of Canada. We're a small market, and you can only ride, if you're lucky, six months a year.

I'm sure there's some here, but Transport Canada will have likely made them impossible to register for the street. Anything streetable will be closely held.

Mark where was the bike you found , and how did you find it ?
I finding it hard to do searches for a bike that size on ebay with out getting almost all dirt-bikes coming up in the searches .

What is this greybike400 site for ?

Mark40
03-09-2006, 11:09 AM
I found my bike on e-bay under the search NC30. It was imported from Thailand by a guy in the service. It was not titled but came with a bill of sale. The Honda VFR400's and RVF400's have been approved for importation to the US, so all I had to do was go to the BMV and they issued a title. The same guy had a couple other’s that he has sold over the last year. An NC30 was on e-bay just last week.

The Hondas are VFR400's and RVF400's
Kawisaki makes a ZX400
Suzuki make GSXR400's
Yamaha has the FZR400
plus there are others..
These can all be had here. The 400 grey bike site has a forum that is a great source of information on most of these bikes and there are quite a few US guys that are members. There is a classifieds as well as workshop etc.

3-5K is what it takes to get a good one, these 400's are great fun to ride.

What do the 400s go for and how hard is the registration bit?

Looked into importing one from Japan two years ago.
The Customs part was so daunting that I gave up.
They are not that expensive in Japan but in the USA
the price really goes up due to the hassle of getting them
EPA certified.

That bike would be bad-ass... Let something like that be the "R" version, and give normal wheels, non-radial brakes, and stuff along those lines for guys that just want a kickass track day bike that won't break the bank..
