View Full Version : A Very General Question re: Weight

Does a person's weight have anything to do with effect of wind gusts on a biker? Another words, will a 300 lb person feel less effect and be blown around alot less than a 150 person on a 400-500 lb scooter? Is the answer as obvious as one would guess? Or is it the weight of the bike that is of much more importance compared to total weight with rider and gear.

Bob, that is a question for an engineer. I would suspect that a person's body mass + weight + shape+ bike speed + wind speed and direction of the wind would have to be calculated in order to properly answer the question. Generally speaking the impact would be the same, but a person's tolerance for pain (another calculation) would also affect the outcome. :blah:
This is an aerodynamics issue and therefore there would be very little actual difference in my unlearned opinion.

adjust for your zip code, add to favorites -- if > 15 mph, don't go, take the car

Good one Pappy! You know I am trying to demonstrate that it takes a lot more than a simple response to answer a seemingly simple question -- at least if I am trying to reply. :cathat: Did that make sense?

I weigh around 210 and if the wind is blowing greater than 20 mph AND is hitting you on the LEFT side...watch those semis. I have had them nearly twist my windshield off! ( on two lane roads ). This could be disasterous if caught unawares. If the wind is hitting your right side...no problem.
