as seen on the MCN website www.motorcyclenews.com/ne...ntID=66910 (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/detail?sectionID=50677&documentID=66910)

Sources in Italy claim Aprilia is developing a smaller V-twin and a single-cylinder engine to power a new range of bikes.

Rather than simply sleeving-down the RSV motor to reduce the capacity, the firm will build a totally new engine.

The motor will have a capacity of around 650cc, allowing Aprilia to build mainstream machines to compete with Suzukiís SV650 and Ducatiís Monster 600 Ėone of Italyís best-selling bikes.

The single-cylinder engine, rumoured to look much like half an RSV engine, is likely to have a capacity of 500-650cc. Aprilia currently buys in Rotax engines for its single-cylinder four-strokes.

So far, it isnít clear when the first machine powered by the new motors will be released, although Apriliaís Francesco Rapisarda said: " There will be something new at the Milan show this September. "

I hope they throw the small twin engine in a RS250-like chassis...make it the same size/ weight as a current RS250, and give it more power than a SV650. I'd buy one in a second...lots of other people would too....

Even a RS250 chassis with a 600cc single would be fun....
